Equilibrium Lab Material Pick Up List.

Take a tan bucket from the cart and get these materials.

1)  4 x 50mL beakers Label with tape

  1. Blue = 0.1M HNO3
  2. Yellow = 1M KSCN
  3. Red = 0.0025M KSCN

7)  5 large test tubes TEST TUBE RACKS ARE UNDER YOUR SINK

8)  12 small test tubes

9)  1 x 600mL beaker in cabinet (for waste)

10) 1 x 250mL beaker in cabinet (for water)

11) Some paper towel

Things to know for the lab

1)  Zero your Spectrophotometer with water, use the knob on the front to control calibration.

2)  Have filter set to Blue on spectrophotometer.

3)  Make sure the spectrophotometer is set to absorbance.

4)  Wipe test tubes with kimwipe before readings. Fingerprints will give false readings

5)  Rinse all materials with water and dry as well as possible before starting. Turn test tubes upside down and lightly tap to get as much water out as possible.

6)  Use the plastic pipette to top off volumetric flask to the line.

7)  Carefully tap test tubes to mix solutions.

8)  One table will have a group, some group members will prepare test tubes #1-5, other prepare #6-15

9)  You will need about 25mL Fe(NO3)3, 25mL 0.0025M KSCN, 50mL of HNO3 and 30mL of 1M KSCN. Fill up the little beakers accordingly, do not waste any materials.

10) Large test tubes are for test tubes #1-5, then transfer these to an empty small test tube. Reuse the small test tube for each solution.

11) Small test tubes are for #6-15. These can go straight into the spectrophotometer.
