WHAT WE CAN DO
provide help for those students whose second language is English
help you with punctuation, grammar, idioms, vocabulary, verb tenses, sentence structure
help you to learn how to proofread your own papers
help you to understand an assignment you've been given
help you to improve a rough draft you are working on
help you to revise or rewrite a paragraph or essay according to your instructor's suggestions
help you with reading comprehension
help you with vocabulary and pronunciation
help you with listening skills
WHAT WE CAN'T DO
be of much help if you come to the Center the day your assignment is due
guarantee that you will get good grades
be of any assistance with a take-home test
proofread or edit for you
Tutor for placement or standardized tests, such as the Praxis, GRE, TOEFL, etc.
* Appointments are 30 minutes long. A second appointment with a Writing Tutor may be scheduled based upon availability,and the second appointment start time must be one hour after the first appointment’s end time. Please go to the website, call 215-968-8044, or stop into L210 to make an appointment.
All currently enrolled Bucks students are welcome to attend any session in Library 210.
Please call the Center at 215-968-8044 or stop in to sign up for the Group. Drop-ins are also welcome.
Conversation Groups will return in the fall semester.- Practice speaking English and learn new idioms in a casual, informal group
- Build listening and pronunciation skills
- Ask questions about American culture, education, politics, and daily life
- Meet other Bucks students
Discussion topics will be based on students’ interests and needs. Possible topics include:
- Current events
- American holidays and celebrations (cultural and historical significance)
- American cultural customs (food, music, art, sports, television/movies, standards of beauty)
- American educational and political systems
- Speaking on the telephone
- Asking for or giving directions
- Language appropriate in the workplace, in classroom settings, and with friends
- Emergency situations (contacting the police, fire department, or medical services)
- Asking questions in class and speaking with professors
