Section 12-3.11. Use on a project with an estimated cost of at least $750,000 and at least 50 working days. Do not use for a seal coat, surfacing, or seismic project. Do not include plant establishment or permanent erosion control establishment days in the number of working days.

Updated draft provided by Don Howe 11-15-17 to include Senate Bill 1 (SB1) Project Funding Identification (C47C(CA)) signs.

DO NOT USE 01-20-17 SSP 12-3.11, it is an obsolete version reverting back to the 2010s.

NSSP identifies header numbering consistent with SSP to be updated, until Traffic Ops issues an RSS correction/SSP correction and/or other 12-3.11B(5) & 12-3.11C(3) updates.

Replace Reserved in section 12-3.11B(5) with:

1. Use if details for construction Project Funding Identification signs are not shown. Change the sign designation to C47A(CA) if the project includes local agency funding and features a local agency name or pictograph in the fluorescent orange header panel. For the SB1 Project Funding Identification C47C(CA) sign, amendment is pending for section 6F.109(CA), in revision 3 of the 2014 CA MUTCD. For specific Standard language, see http://www.dot.ca.gov/trafficops/tcd/pfi.html, and insert appropriate sign designation C47A(CA), C47B(CA), or C47C(CA).

A construction Project Funding Identification (C47_(CA)) sign must comply with the details specifications for Project Funding Identification signs in section 6F.109(CA) of the California MUTCD and shown on at the Department's Traffic Operations website.

The sign must be a wood-post sign complying with section 82-3.

The sign panels must be framed, single-sheet aluminum panels complying with section 82-2.

4. Type XI retroreflective sheeting will be used for rigid substrate construction area signs.

The background on the sign must be Type IIXI retroreflective sheeting. The Type IIXI retroreflective sheeting must be on the Authorized Material List for signing and delineation materials.

The legend must be retroreflective except for nonreflective black letters and numerals. The blue and fluorescent orange must match the FHWA’s color specifications available at the FHWA’s MUTCD website. PR color no. 3 on FHWA's Color Tolerance Chart. The orange must match PR color no. 6 on FHWA's Color Tolerance Chart

6. Replace TYPE OF PROJECT with one of the project types shown in the following table or delete for SB1 (C47C(CA)) signs:

7. Specify the type of funding. If county funds are involved (i.e., a cooperative agreement is provided), specify the type of county funding. Otherwise, delete the third line. If the project does not have any federal funding, delete the first line. On SB1 Projects, no listing of Federal, State or ___ County will be shown on the C47C(CA) sign (delete par. 7 if SB1 Project Funding Identification (C47C(CA)) sign is used).

8–9. Use to include the year of project completion on the sign. Delete if SB1 (C47C(CA)) signs are used.

The Engineer provides the year of completion for the legend on the sign. Install a sign overlay for the year of completion within 15 days of notification.

9. Insert the year of completion if the Engineer is not to provide the year of completion.

11. Insert the quantity and type of construction project funding signs on the project. Insert Type 1 for conventional highways and Type 2 for freeways and expressways. For size, insert 96 by 60 inch for conventional highways and 144 by 90 inch for freeways and expressways. Per Specification Style Guide, edit as quantity and size – “2 (quantity) 96 by 60 inch (size) construction project funding…" etc. Edit as necessary to include required both sizes.
