RE:Classical Studies Minor
Thank you for considering our proposed revision to the classics minor during your October 3 meeting. We have incorporated the Committee’s recommendations and wish to resubmit the re-revised minor for your consideration.
Specifically, we have done the following:
- added WLIT 212 to the list of elective courses
- added pre-requisites for AGRK 102, EHIS 200, and a few other 200-level classes requiring sophomore status or a 100-level course in the discipline.
The Committee also asked about the frequency with which EHIS 200 and EHIS 202 are offered. Dr. Yatsuhashi looked at the Registrar’s records since Fall 2009, and he discovered that EHIS 200 (Greek history) has been offered twice (Summer 2011 and 2012) and Roman history once (Spring 2010). Dr. Morgan-Zayachek has also spoken with the History Department and received Dr. Ashbaugh’s permission to submit the revised minor.
Please note that the EHIS 200 and EHIS 202 courses are not required to complete the minor, and the English Department will be happy to ensure that WLIT 212, the other option in this area, is offered on a consistent basis.
Thank you very much for your consideration, and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Proposed Changes to the Classical Studies Minor
Purpose:
To streamline the Classical Studies minor's requirements so that they are comparable to other minors andthe minor is more attractive to potential students. Since the Classical Studies minor generally attracts juniors and seniors, the semester hours currently required (24 s.h.) make it challenging for such students to fulfill the requirements. The proposed change will help increase enrollments in current Classics-related offerings while still maintaining the rigor of the minor.
