DISABILITY RIGHTS NORTH CAROLINA POSITION DESCRIPTION

General Summary: Coordinate and implement Disability Rights NC’s efforts to effectively message and communicate its activities and impact to people with disabilities, the disability rights community, supporters, volunteers, and other disability rights stakeholders; coordinate and implement the event plan for statewide events; and create a plan for and lead smaller, community-based fundraising events. This position works closely and under the direction of the Director of Development.
Essential functions:
1. Ability to travel extensively throughout North Carolina.
2. Ability to work long hours and/or weekends, as needed.
3. Ability to communicate effectively and expressively both orally and in writing.
4. Ability to interact with people with disabilities.
Responsibilities:
· Develop and send all mass written and email communications, including newsletters, event invitations, reminders, updates, fundraising appeals, and annual report.
· Manage agency mailing lists – written and email.
· Write content for, manage, and update the Disability Rights NC website.
· Maintain, update and expand social media initiatives and online community sites to engage key audiences.
· Assist in the development of and maintain marketing materials, presentations, impact stories, and other Disability Rights NC printed materials.
· Manage event photos and videos for website and other uses.
· Create and implement event plans for statewide events, including but not limited to development and production of event materials such as programs, handouts, and presentations.
· Create, lead, and implement event plans for smaller, community-based fundraising or outreach events.
· Make presentations to community and local government groups regarding the work of Disability Rights NC and the rights of people with disabilities.
· Develop volunteer programs, as needed.
· Communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing with organizations, local government entities, and the public.
· Create educational materials that describe the organization, projects, and opportunities for volunteers.
· Implement the communications and development portions of Disability Rights NC’s strategic plan.
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, English, public policy, nonprofit management or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
· Experience developing external communications (preferred);
· Personal commitment to disability rights issues;
· Experience working with people with disabilities (preferred);
· Excellent oral and written communication skills;
· Ability to organize and prioritize complex tasks;
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Publisher or other desktop publishing programs (preferred);
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; and
· Keen attention to detail.
