Adobe Acrobat Reader

Finding Words

You can use the Find command to find a complete word or part of a word in the current PDF document. Acrobat Reader looks for the word by reading every word on every page in the file, including text in form fields.

To find a word using the Find command:

1.  Click the Find button (Binoculars), or choose Edit > Find.

2.  Enter the text to find in the text box.

3.  Select search options if necessary:

Match Whole Word Only finds only occurrences of the complete word you enter in the box. For example, if you search for the word stick, the words tick and sticky will not be highlighted.

Match Case finds only words that contain exactly the same capitalization you enter in the box.

Find Backwards starts the search from the current page and goes backwards through the document.

4.  Click Find. Acrobat Reader finds the next occurrence of the word.

To find the next occurrence of the word, Do one of the following:

Choose Edit > Find Again

Reopen the find dialog box, and click Find Again.

(The word must already be in the Find text box.)

Copying and pasting text and graphics to another application

You can select text or a graphic in a PDF document, copy it to the Clipboard, and paste it into another application such as a word processor. You can also paste text into a PDF document note or into a bookmark. Once the selected text or graphic is on the Clipboard, you can switch to another application and paste it into another document.

Note: If a font copied from a PDF document is not available on the system displaying the copied text, the font cannot be preserved. A default font is substituted.

To select and copy it to the clipboard:

1.  Select the text tool T, and do one of the following:

To select a line of text, select the first letter of the sentence or phrase and drag to

the last letter.

To select multiple columns of text (horizontally), hold down Ctrl+Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) as you drag across the width of the document.

To select a column of text (vertically), Hold down Ctrl+Alt (Windows) or Option+Command (Mac OS) as you drag the length of the document.

To select all the text on the page, choose Edit > Select All. In single page mode, all the text on the current page is selected. In Continuous or Continuous – facing mode, most of the text in the document is selected. When you release the mouse button, the selected text is highlighted. To deselect the text and start over, click anywhere outside the selected text.

The Select All command will not select all the text in the document. A workaround for this (Windows) is to use the Edit > Copy command. Choose Edit > Copy to copy the selected text to the clipboard.

2.  To view the text, choose Window > Show Clipboard

In Windows 95, the Clipboard Viewer is not installed by default and you cannot use the Show Clipboard command until it is installed. To install the Clipboard Viewer, Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, and then click the Windows Setup tab. Double-click Accessories, check Clipboard Viewer, and click OK.

[There is no reportable action as a result of

either of the Board's closed sessions held today.]

HILDA SOLIS, CHAIR: GOOD AFTERNOON, EVERYONE, AND WELCOME TO THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS' SEPTEMBER 6, 2016 MEETING. THIS MEETING WILL NOW COME TO ORDER. THIS AFTERNOON, THE INVOCATION WILL BE LED BY RABBI DR. MARK GOLDFARB, THE TEMPLE BETH OHR OF LA MIRADA, FOURTH DISTRICT, AND THE PLEDGE THIS AFTERNOON WILL BE LED BY GENERAL RUTH WONG, OF MILITARY AND VETERANS' AFFAIRS. AUDIENCE MEMBERS AND BOARD, PLEASE STAND.

RABBI DR. MARK GOLDFARB: MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, ASSEMBLED GUESTS, FELLOW RESIDENTS OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY, GOOD AFTERNOON. WE FIND OURSELVES LIVING IN INTERESTING TIMES. IN THESE DAYS OF INTENSE, DIVISIVE POLITICAL RHETORIC, OF BOTH POLITICAL LEADERS AND PUNDITS ALIKE BLAMING THE OTHER FOR THE CHALLENGES WE FACE, IN THESE DAYS WHERE UNCERTAINTY AND FEAR ARE IN THE AIR, IT IS APPROPRIATE FOR US TO PAUSE AND LOOK AT OUR PAST FOR GUIDANCE. PERHAPS WE CAN TAKE COURAGE AND LEARN FROM A SIMILAR SITUATION WHEN, AFTER A DIFFICULT TRANSITION TO POWER, AFTER MUCH CHANGE IN THE INTERNATIONAL AND POLITICAL ARENA, AND QUITE A FEW CHANGES IN THE INDIVIDUAL LEADERS WITHIN THE COUNTRY AND THE SURROUNDING LANDS, WHEN VARIOUS FACTIONS WERE COMPETING FOR POLITICAL POWER, THE THEN-LEADER WAS OVERWHELMED BY THESE CHALLENGES. FACING AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE AND NUMEROUS CHALLENGES TO HIS LEADERSHIP, IT WAS THEN THAT KING SOLOMON TURNED TO GOD WITH THIS REQUEST: "GIVE YOUR SERVANT, THEREFORE, A DISCERNING HEART TO HELP RULE YOUR PEOPLE." IN HEBREW, "DISCERNING HEART" IS "LEV SHOMEA": A HEART THAT HEARS. OF ALL THE THINGS THAT KING SOLOMON COULD HAVE ASKED FOR-- WEALTH, MILITARY POWER, POLITICAL KNOWLEDGE, AN IPHONE-- SOLOMON ASKS FOR A LEV SHOMEA: A HEART THAT HEARS. KING SOLOMON, ONE OF THE WISEST OF ALL RULERS, ASKED FOR EMPATHY WITH WHICH TO GOVERN. AND SO LET US PRAY. OUR GOD, AND GOD OF OUR ANCESTORS, YOU ARE THE INSPIRATION AND GUIDE FOR US ALL. YOU HAVE SPOKEN IN A THOUSAND TONGUES FOR US TO HEAR. IN EVERY LAND AND EVERY AGE, WE, YOUR CHILDREN, HAVE HEARD YOU, AND EXPERIENCED YOU IN OUR SEPARATE WAYS. AND YET, YOU ARE THE ONE, THE UNIFIER OF HUMANITY. WE TURN TO YOU IN PRAYER TODAY FOR OUR GREAT COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES, FOR OUR BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, AND YES, FOR ALL THE RESIDENTS OF THIS COUNTY AND BEYOND. O GUARDIAN OF LIFE AND LIBERTY, MAY WE CONTINUE TO ACT IN WAYS THAT WILL ALWAYS BENEFIT OUR COUNTY, STATE, AND NATION, AND MERIT YOUR BLESSINGS OF PEACE AND PROSPERITY. MAY YOUR BLESSINGS REST UPON OUR BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AND UPON US ALL, AND MAY WE BE RESPONSIVE TO YOUR WILL. STRENGTHEN US SO THAT WE ARE ABLE TO WITHSTAND THE TEMPTATION TO FOLLOW THE VOICES OF THE FEW, WHO WOULD SEEK TO INSTILL DIVISION AND FEAR IN THE HEARTS OF THE MANY. GRANT US THE STRENGTH AND THE COURAGE TO GROW IN OURSELVES A LEV SHOMEA, A DISCERNING HEART, SO THAT WE MIGHT RESPOND TO THOSE WHO SEEK TO DIVIDE, WHO SEEK TO INSTILL FEAR, WHO SEEK TO BLAME OTHERS FOR THE CHALLENGES WE FACE, WITH A WISE AND DISCERNING HEART: A HEART THAT HEARS. I INVITE YOU TO SILENTLY CONCLUDE THIS HUMBLE PRAYER WITH WORDS APPROPRIATE TO YOUR RELIGIOUS AND SPIRITUAL TRADITION, AND LET US ALL SAY AMEN.

RUTH WONG: LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, PLEASE FACE THE FLAG. PLACE YOUR RIGHT HAND OVER YOUR HEART. VETERANS MAY SALUTE THE FLAG, AND SAY WITH ME... [PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE RECITED.]

HILDA SOLIS, CHAIR: SUPERVISOR KNABE?

SUP. KNABE: THANK YOU, MADAME CHAIR, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. IT'S MY PLEASURE TO THANK RABBI GOLDFARB FOR LEADING US IN THE INVOCATION THIS MORNING.
