Declaration of Academic Integrityfor assessments submitted online

Blackboard has an Assignments feature that enables students to submit work electronically. All submissions are securely stored by Blackboard and can only be accessed by the course tutor(s). The date and time of the submission is recorded and students can see an online ‘receipt’. Step-by-step guides to using the system for staff and studentscan be found on the iSolutions website. Tutors should read ‘Issues to consider when implementing e-submission’ and discuss their plans with the programme leader before implementing e-submission.

Tutors should also be aware of the Turnitin online plagiarism detection service which is integrated with Blackboard. This can also be used by students to submit work electronically and also enables tutors to mark on-screen.

Tutors should not use email for online submission of work because of the potential for disputes about the submission or receipt of work, especially if a deadline has been missed.

If you decide to use e-submission of assignments, you must use a modified form of the ‘Declaration of Academic Integrity’ which has been adapted so that a signature is not required.

You can copy-and-paste the text below into the Instructions text box of the Add Assignment form on Blackboard, after any more specific instructions about the assignment:

By submitting this assignment, I confirm that:

  1. I have read and understood the University’s Academic Integrity Guidance for Students and that in the attached submission I have worked within the expectations of the Regulations Governing Academic Integrity.
  2. I am aware that failure to act in accordance with the Regulations Governing Academic Integritymay lead to the imposition of penalties which, for the most serious cases, may include termination of programme.
  3. I consent to the University copying and distributing any or all of my work in any form and using third parties (who may be based outside the EU/EEA) to verify whether my work contains plagiarised material, and for quality assurance purposes.

Students should also include a brief Academic Integrity Declaration in the text of their assignment, either at the start or the end:

Academic Integrity Declaration: I am aware of the requirements of good academic practice and the potential penalties for any breaches.

And then either:

I confirm that this assignment is all my own work

The extent to which I have worked with others is as follows:
