A.THERE ARE SEVERAL VERSES IN THE BIBLE WHICH

SPEAK OF THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BLOOD OF

CHRIST

1.   When our Lord instituted the L.S. , He said-Mt. 26:28

2.   In Acts 20:28, Paul bade the Elders at Ephesus

3.   In Col. 1:14, we are told “We have redemption”

4.   Peter tells us that we are “redeemed with the”-I Pet.

1:19

B. ALL THESE VERSES AND MANY MORE SPEAK OF THE

IMPORTANCE OF THE BLOOD OF CHRIST

C. MANY THINGS WERE ACCOMPLISHED BY THE BLOOD

OF CHRIST-LET’S LOOK AT SOME OF THESE

II.   SOME THINGS ACCOMPLISHED BY THE BLOOD OF CHRIST

A. 1st, THE SINS OF THOSE UNDER THE O.T. WERE

FORGIVEN BY THE BLOOD OF CHRIST

1.   Actually no sins were forgiven completely under the Law

until Jesus died on the Cross-Gal. 4:4-5;Heb. 9:15

a. Moses sins were not forgiven until Jesus died-

b. David’s sins were not ABSOLUTELY forgiven

c. There is a sense in which their sins were forgiven-In

the sense that they obeyed what the Law required of

them to be forgiven-Heb. 10:3,4

d. “having obtained”-Heb. 9:12,15

B. 2nd, THE OLD TESTAMENT FULFILLED

1.   Jesus died NOT ONLY TO TAKE AWAY THE SINS OF

THOSE UNDER THE LAW BUT ALSO TO TAKE AWAY

THE OLD LAW ITSELF-Matt. 5:17-18-He fulfilled it

He Abolished it. He blotted it out-Nailed it to the cross

-Heb. 10:9; Col. 2:14

a. All of these words are used in the Bible about the O.T.

Law

2. God made the FIRST TESTAMENT OLD-Heb. 8:13

a.   In what sense was the Old Testament made “OLD”?

b. It is not OLDER THAN THE NEW TESTAMENT

c.   OLD TESTAMENT ONLY LASTED 1500 Years

d. The New Testament has already been in effect for

nearly 2000 yrs

e.   It “WAS MADE OLD”-Who? God made it old

4.   ARE WE UNDER LAW TODAY?-SOME SAY WE ARE

UNDER GRACE-JN. 1:17 THEREFORE NOT UNDER

LAW-TURN TO-I COR. 9:21

5.   Law is given for the purpose to govern the life and

conduct of people

6.   WHEN WAS THE LAW DONE AWAY?-SOME SAY WHEN

JESUS DIED-IF SO, WHAT LAW DID THEY LIVE UNDER

FROM THE DEATH OF JESUS UNTIL THE DAY OF

PENTECOST

C. 3rd, THE NEW TESTAMENT IS SEALED WITH THE BLOOD

OF CHRIST-Heb. 9:16-17; 10:9; 9:15

1.   It became effective AFTER THE DEATH OF CHRIST

Heb. 9:16-17

a.   Abraham was not subject to it

b. Moses was not subject to it

c.   David was not subject to it

d. The thief on the cross was not subject to it

e.   Heb. 9:16-17 says

D. 4th, CHURCH WAS PURCHASED WITH THE BLOOD OF

CHRIST-Acts 20:28; Eph. 5:25-What church?-Lord’s

1.   What does this mean?-He shed His blood-He died to

bring it into existence

2.   The church belongs to the Lord because He purchased

it

3.   NOT only did He purchase it , He also BUILT IT-Mt. 16:18

a.   Only He has the right to SAY WHAT GOES INTO IT

SINCE HE IS THE BUILDER AND OWNER-No man

b. Some are putting instrumental music into it

c.   Some are putting counting beads into it

d. Some are putting recreation and entertainment into it

e.   Some are putting Homosexuality into it

f.   Christ did not put these things into it-He is the owner

and builder of the church-John warns-2 Jn. 9-11;Gal.

1:6-8 warns

4.   He is the head of it-Eph. 1:22-23

5.   He is the foundation-I Cor. 3:11

6.   He is the savior of it-Eph. 5:23

E. 4TH, OUR SINS ARE FORGIVEN BY THE BLOOD OF

CHRIST-Rm. 5:6-9; Col. 1:14; I Pet. 1:19; Rev. 1:5; 7:13-14

1.   We cannot be literally washed in the Blood of Christ

2.   But WE Are to be washed in the Blood of Christ

3.   How is this accomplished? How is this possible?-The

Blood of Christ was shed in His death-Jn. 19:33-34

4.   Some how we MUST COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE

BLOOD OF CHRIST-How is this accomplished?-Rm. 6:

3-4,17; Col. 2:11-13

F. 5th, FINAL POINT, WE MUST LIVE IN CONTACT WITH THE

BLOOD OF CHRIST TO BE SAVED ETERNALLY

1.   How is this accomplished?-I Jn. 1:7

2.   John did not say “if we walk in the light” we will never

make a mistake. We will never sin-I Jn. 1:8,10-What are

we to do when we sin?-Some say nothing the blood of

Christ continues to forgive us of our sins-What about

Simon the sorcerer-Acts 8:18-24; I Jn. 1:9

III.   CONCLUSION:

A. HAVE YOU BEEN WASHED IN THE BLOOD OF CHRIST?

B. ARE YOU WALKING IN THE LIGHT OF HIS WORD?

C. IF NOT OBEY THE GOSPEL AS WE STAND AND SING
