Advisor – The advisor award is intended for an individual involved in the residence halls that is acting as a mentor, supervisor, or advisor toward you while living in the residence halls. (i.e. Faculty Mentor, FIG Faculty, Residence Hall Director, advisor to your student organization, etc.).

As I walk into Becky Lee's office (which I do every day) I see paper on her walls. Not just the normal kinds of papers. They are achievement papers, but not her own. They are of students. Now, Becky is not a teacher, but she takes pride what "her" students have done. I sit in her office looking around, probably bothering her, but she never tells me to leave. I see paper flowers of all the government members, pictures colored by students, thank you cards, and books upon books filled with student guidance. Although her office may be a bit messy at times, it brings character to who she is not only as a person, but as a hall director.

An advisor is said to be a person who gives advice, typically someone who is an expert in a particular field. Becky would never categorize herself as an expert, but she does know about directing a hall. She has ways of making students feel loved. She puts candy in her office, and what college student isn't going to pass up free food? She is constantly looking for ways to improve the lives of students through reaching out in creative ways. She is non- judgmental in recognizing students' strengths and weaknesses. She has a sign outside her door that assures us that it's always open, even when it's closed. Becky is a creative hall director, she does her job well and doesn't hesitate to lend a hand to students in need.

Becky is a gracious contributor and affiliated with many organizations around campus. One of the first times I met Becky she was walking to the DUC for an anti- hazing campaign. She is actively involved and supports the student GSA. Becky is all about community respect and takes pride in programs that support this, not only in Hansen Hall, but throughout the campus. She goes above and beyond the normal hall director duties. She attends concerts that her student's put on, she'll lend her dog, Lady, to anyone that may need a little love, and she gives out hugs to those in need. She may be a bit of an overachiever, but I know that she loves her job and takes pride in what she does.

"Of The Year" awards an individual that has shown great achievement throughout the residence halls. Becky Lee shows achievement not only in Hansen Hall but throughout the University. She's actively involved in student's lives, ready and willing to be of service, not only an academic level, but also a personal level. She is truly good at what she does as a hall director and has a advisor to all students. For these reasons our hall has chosen to nominate Becky Lee as the Advisor of the Year.
