SVQ Management Network Event
Thursday 10 November 2016
Discussion Groups
(a) As part of the consultation being undertaken by QFI, please consider the proposed revised SVQ Management structures (in particular the mandatory sections) and assessment strategy due to come into operation from 1st June 2017. [copies of the proposed revised structures, assessment strategy and a summary of the changes are included in your delegate pack]
NB: If you wish to make comments on these proposals on an individual basis, please contact Margo Sykes () who will forward you the link to QFI’s electronic survey.
(b) Maintaining standards: what is sufficient, acceptable evidence?
Please consider the evidence submitted in Examples 1 – 3 (on pages 2 – 5) and discuss this in line with given questions/prompts and, where appropriate, outlinepossible ways you could enhance this evidence.
(c) If there’s sufficient time, please consider other key issues/topics regarding delivery of SVQs in Management eg:
Electronic portfolios: the need to ensure evidence is clearly signposted to the requirements of the unit
Use of Accreditation unit search: SQA’s policy of NOS/SVQ units now being available through this search facility rather than on SVQ Management page. Do we need a document with all units for each qualification?
Key points from all your discussions will be fed back by your facilitator
Example 1
Evidence Submitted in relation to Unit E6 Ensure Health and Safety Requirements Are Met in Your Area of Responsibility
Picture of a clipboard on notice board (cropped for anonymity)
From using this sheet every day me and my colleagues are developing a culture and setting an example within our department for Health and Safety. We are also able to ensure we are eliminating any risks such as if there was an emergency, and either me or my colleagues haven’t used this sheet properly then the Health and Safety Officer could be looking for us when we are not in so it is paramount this is followed correctly.
This ‘Fire Roll Call Sheet’ pictured above is for our Department. There are also sheets for the other departments within our building. When there is a visitor they sign in at the reception desk rather than the sheet pictured here. This ensures that if myself or my colleagues have any visitors within the building at the time of an emergency then they will be accounted for. This sheet is very important for the monitoring of Health and Safety of staff within the building and allows for myself and my colleagues to follow the departments regulations for fire safety.
