JOB DESCRIPTION: DEPUTY HEADTEACHER
Post Title and Salary: /Deputy Headteacher with responsibilities for whole school strategic developments
(L18-22)
Purpose: /- As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to provide outstanding leadership and management to ensure the realisation of its aims and objectives
- To effectively lead the formulation and implementation of policy and the establishment of a student centred ethos which leads to effective learning
- To be aware of and involved in, the latest educational innovations and developments
- The post holder will have oversight of Senior Staff, specific strategic developments and a number of curriculum areas
- To ensure that the school is an orderly, purposeful, friendly, healthy and safe environment in which effective learning can and does take place
- To take a lead role in the continuous quality improvement cycle throughout the school
- To work with Governors, staff, parents and pupils to promote the interests of the school
- To attend and contribute to Governors meetings
- To effectively support the implementation of Performance Management
- To lead by example and actively promote the school’s policies and ethos
- To deputise for the Headteacher as required
- To carry out specific duties and responsibilities of a Deputy Headteacher as defined in the current Teachers’ Conditions of Service Document.
Reporting to: / Headteacher
Responsible for: / Supporting the Headteacher in leading the SLT & staff throughout the school.
Liaising with: / School governors, senior staff, curriculum leaders, pastoral team, relevant staff with cross-school responsibilities, relevant support staff, LA staff, parents.

Working Time / 195 days per year. Full Time
OPERATIONAL/STRATEGIC, PLANNING & CORE DUTIES
Operational/ Strategic Planning / To be determined dependant on the strengths and experiences of the successful candidate.
These will involve leading and being accountable for significant strategic areas of schoolwhich impact on whole school outcomes.
MAIN CORE DUTIES / No matter what the specific nature of the job description, all members of the SLT are expected to carry out the following fundamental roles:
Staff /
- To support and encourage staff in establishing stimulating and challenging learning environments which secure effective learning and provide for high standards of behaviour and discipline.
- To take an active role in the implementation of the staff appraisal process.
- To participate in the interview process for teaching and non-teaching posts when required and to ensure effective induction of new staff in line with school policy.
- To promote teamwork and motivate staff to ensure effective working relations.
- To act as a positive role model and lead by example.
- To promote and develop the corporate responsibilities of all staff to ensure the positive promotion of the school.
Students /
- To lead and share in the management of the behaviour of pupils.
- To lead and share in the management of students outside of lessons to ensure that behaviour is orderly.
- To take assemblies on a rota basis.
- To carry out a range of administrative duties in connection with the day-to-day running of the school.
- To support the school pastoral system and the well-being of all students.
Marketing and Promotion of the School /
- To oversee the organisation of special events in School.
- To attend whole school events and activities outside of school hours as required.
- To take an active and lead role in staff meetings/briefings.
- To support/lead the planning and management of primary school events.
- To support/lead and manage events for the Open Evening/Day.
- To support/lead the planning and running of transition events with both primary and tertiary partners.
- To support/lead the development of innovative ways of increasing first choices to the School.
- To actively contribute to and support the marketing and promotion of the school.
Quality Assurance /
- To ensure the effective operation of quality control systems.
- To monitor and evaluate Learning and Teaching.
- To monitor and evaluate Assessment.
- To Monitor and evaluate School Improvement by taking a leading role in the School Development Plan process and contributing to the school improvement cycle and the SEF.
- To monitor and evaluating of the professional development of staff.
- To ingrain the School culture, vision and values in all staff.
- To monitor and evaluating exam targets and target setting.
- To make informal visits to classrooms and to be around the school and its corridors
- To take part in Learning Walks and Lesson Observations.
- To actively participate in strategic planning.
- To lead by example, provide inspiration and motivation, vision and purpose in line with the aims of the school.
- To be available for staff and to provide support as required.
- To take a Liaison role for faculties, support the completion ½ termly of the liaison proforma as required.
- To be available for the mentoring of staff.
- To report to and update Governor Committee Meetings as required.
Teaching: /
- To undertake an appropriate programme of teaching.
