Position: / Safety Supervisor FLSA: Salaried ExemptGeneral Purpose of Position:
Provide direction to organization on matters involved with an industrial health and safety program to assure a place of employment free of recognized hazards. Work is somewhat complex involving the continual monitoring of the facility. Decisions made within the limits of general practices, policies and procedures. Independent judgment is required, however, some direct guidance is available from supervisor.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
· Complies with the terms of labor agreements.
· Participates in contract negotiations with union health and safety representative.
· Advises management on safety related matters.
· Trains, develops and evaluates employees.
· Meets with union health and safety representative.
· Maintains awareness of state and federal safety regulations and policies and procedures regarding safety and industrial health.
· Facilitate implementation of Health and Safety programs for Shop Floor Management.
· Reviews new equipment and methods for avoiding potential safety hazards.
· Participates in the selection and training of new employees.
· Regular contact with others outside the work group.
· May accompany compliance officers and prepare required data.
· Travel to supplier locations for equipment run-offs.
· Coordinate the Employee Safety Concern Process
· Analyze data for trends and advise leadership of recommendations to reduce risk.
· Coordinate and monitor GMS initiatives for health and safety
· Develop and lead the Joint Health & Safety Committee
· Support Plant Leadership initiatives at the PSRB.
· Communicate and track implementation of divisional safety initiatives.
· Participate in plant local safety committees.
· Facilitates preparation for Plant Self-Assessment for the IUE-CWA / GM Audit Modules
· Participate in Divisional and other networking activities including monthly GM safety supervisor call
Skills and Abilities:
· Thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes and industrial safety.
· High level of oral and written communications skills.
· High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output.
· Understanding of environmental sampling techniques.
· Relatively high level of analytical ability where problems are complex.
· Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations
· Must have excellent organizational skills
· Highly skilled in utilizing Microsoft Office.
· Self-motivated and highly self-sufficient.
Education and Training:
Bachelor’s degree with a major industrial safety or engineering.
Experience:
3 - 5 years related experience
