Cruiseflash – February 2017

Next Stop,

New Orleans*!

(*In musical, rather than geographical terms, obviously)

(P&O picture – Pablo)

Only a few weeks left until we set-sail on 31st March for our celebration of all things Mardi Gras.

(If you haven’t booked yet, don’t delay if you want the cabins of your choice) Book at -

With Nick Steed playing and singing in Terminal 1 before you’ve even stepped aboard it will be music-all-the-way.

With two guitarists, three double-bassists, two drummers, three saxophonists, two trumpeters, a trombonist, a sousaphonist and no few than six pianistsin the line-up our stage will be fuller than ever …and that’s before we get to the vocalists!

Without doubt, this the biggest UK-based, New Orleans Show ever!

Expect blues, boogie, soul, rock & roll and jazz – but most of all expect a party!

Almost there…

These folks obviously made a big effort to look the part and – with beads, eccentric headgear, masks, feather-boas and loud shirts - they’re almost there.

But they’ve forgotten the one compulsory Mardi Gras accessory

…a smile!

Not something that Dom Pipkin would ever forget …it’s a party!

As the battle of the loud shirts warms up (this monstrous deep-sea fishing-shirt is the latest contender to promise an appearance) it’s worth checking out some of the artists who will entertain us …

Winners of the UK Blues Challenge(2016) and semi-finalists in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis (2017)

The Kaz Hawkins Band will join us from Northern Ireland.

Check out Kaz with her multi-national band here

2013 Winners of the European Blues ChallengeVeronica Sbergia & Max De Bernardi (Italy) also step on-board for the first time in the midst of a major UK Tour.

No stranger to the UK after several tours with Memo Gonzales, superb guitarist Kai Strauss will bring his Electric Blues All Starsto ‘a venue in Amsterdam’ on 4th November …in 2016 the band were voted the ‘Best Blues Band in Germany’.

Not that these ‘new faces’ mean there isn’t room for ‘old favourites’ on the cruise.

Norman Beaker and his band (with guest appearances from Kyla Brox and Tom Attah) will again provide the backbone to the event.

Norman recently has received the ultimate accolade in being inducted to America’s Blues Hall of Famealongside artists such as Etta James, John Lee Hooker and Bo Diddley … well done, Norman!
