CHIEFS AND RAY’S CASH REGISTER TAPES

It’s time to start collecting cash register tapes again. We really appreciate any you can send our way. They will help pay the heating bills this winter.

BOOK SIGNING

Visitors during Canal Days got an extra-added attraction as local author, Homer Baumgartner, was on hand to sign copies of his book Rambling Along on the AC&Y Railroad. Homer’s humor and railroad tales kept the crowd quite entertained.

Greater Ohio Bicycle Adventure

We received a very nice note from Julie Van Winkle, the director of GOBA:

Thank you all so such for opening the doors of the Delphos

CanalMuseumfor the visit of the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure,

June 18. It was such a treat to see how extensive and how well

researched your historical exhibits are. I know I speak for myself

as well as most of the riders who visited that day: we could have

easily spent many more hours or days enjoying your museum.

I know you went to extra trouble to open the museum during

hours that were favorable for GOBA, and I so appreciate all of

the volunteer work that went into making that happen. Rest

assured, your museum and your volunteers made this stop a

highlight of our week.

Nearly 3000 bicyclists converged at StadiumPark withsome of those opting to take the time to visit the museum before heading for Spencerville and lunch.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped: Sue Kunz, Mary Dienstberger, Margaret Fischer, Lenore Hemker, Vickie Reindel, Linda Mox, Barb Nienberg, Ruth Michail, Mary Ann Hoersten, Betsy Raabe, Maneta Calvelage, Marie Hirn, Eileen Martz, Wilma Humpert, Bob and Donna Holdgreve, Vern Kill, Arnie and Josie Mohler, Gene and Posie Weber, Judy Grothouse, Marie Miller, Louis and Martha Kaverman, Laura Roach, Dolly Hemker, and John and Mary Lou Wittler. This was a monumental task and we could not have done it without you. A special thanks to Diana Ireland who telephoned for volunteers. Our profit for the day was over $1000.00.

Lincoln Buy-Way Yard Sale

A big thank you is also in order to Dean Bowersock who let us set up at the Delphos Food Locker. He even moved his equipment so we could use his canopy…a welcome relief on those hot sunny days. Again, our members helped us out tremendously. Those working were: Mary Lou and John Wittler, Bob and Suzanne Booker, Diana Ireland, Mary Ann Hoersten, Bob and Donna Holdgreve, Josie Mohler, Martha Kaverman, Laura Roach, Maneta Calvelage, Eileen Martz, Barb Nienberg, and Judy Green. Many more of you donated items that we were able to sell. Our profit for the 3 days was over $500.00.

Fresh and Frugal Tea

Our most recent tea was successful in spite of several curves thrown our way. Three hours before the event, our presenter had to cancel due to a family emergency. In addition, two of our trustees were ill and unable to help, but the show went on with Dorothy and Marilyn “entertaining” the attendees. Diana Ireland and her granddaughter, Erin, Becky Kellam and her daughter, Victoria, and Sue Kunz were on hand to help and they also contributed to the items on the menu.

The museum was very busy during Canal Days with about 700 visitors, and once again, our volunteers helped us.Sue Kunz lined upIrene Utrup, Ruth Michael, Burl and Marietta Morris, Norma Ditto, Paul and Dorothy Metzger, Marie Hirn, Jane Kimmet, Eileen Martz, Maneta Calvelage, Betsy Raabe, Judy Grothouse, Josie Mohler, Martha and Louie Kaverman, Mary Dienstberger, Eileen Bonifas, Louie and Lorene Jettinghoff, Margaret Fisher, Mary Kill, Ralph Lauser Veronica Luersman, George and Linda Mox, and Mary Lou and John Wittler. They helped register guests at the door and generally helped out wherever they were neededto keep an eye on things. Elmer was especially glad to have the company of some other men in the basement.

Canal Parade

We are very grateful to Neil Brady and his wife, Allison, who brought the MECCA (Miami Erie Canal Corridor Association) canal boat to Delphos and pulled it for the parade. It was a welcome addition to the parade.

Volunteers

There is a theme in the above articles: volunteers. There is simply too much work to do and not enough time to do it. We have several projects that never seem to get done and are looking for volunteers who might enjoy helping. One is a simple job of organizing the drawers in our display areas and another is the more time-consuming job of indexing the materials in our binders so people can find what they are looking for faster. There are many other tasks.Once we get the second floor ready there will be even more to do. Could you commit 1 or 2 hours a month to help?
