Job title:Lunchtime Play Leader/Midday Supervisory Assistant (MSA)

Grade:Spiral Support Staff Pay Scale Grade 1 (currently £15,559) pro rata

Hours:11.45 – 1.30 pm (8.75 hours per week)

Responsible to:Lunchtime Manager and Head Teacher

  1. PURPOSE OF YOUR JOB
  • To seek to ensure the safety and welfare of all pupils during the lunch break.
  1. MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
  • To prepare the layout of the tables in preparation for lunch, including laying up tables.
  • To supervise the pupils when they are in the dining room eating lunch.
  • To clear up the dining room after the lunch break, including clearing any food and wrapping left on the tables, wiping the tables and sweeping the floor.
  • To lead games and activities in the playground.
  • To encourage friendships and social interaction in the playground.

3.DUTIES

(i)Supervision

  1. To assist and support the Lunchtime Manager and other Midday Supervisory Assistants (MSAs) to provide a safe, stimulating environment for the children, with creative and appropriate play opportunities during the lunchtime period.
  2. To encourage positive social relationships between children.

3.To act in a responsible manner towards the children at all times.

4.To be responsible, with other MSAs, for ensuring that play materials and equipment are properly used, maintained and stored and for reporting any worn or damaged materials to the Lunchtime Manager.

  1. To ensure that all pupils return to the care of their teachers at the end of the lunch period.

(ii)Behaviour

  1. To maintain an acceptable standard of conduct and discipline amongst pupils ensuring that all appropriate school regulations are complied with and reporting serious breaches of discipline or persistent unruly behaviour to the headteacher, or the nominated person deputising for the headteacher.
  2. To supervise the movement of pupils to and from the dining room and playground and ensure appropriate behaviour at all times.

(iii)First Aid

  1. To administer, or supervise, any first aid as required and appropriate.
  2. To record, or supervise, the recording of any accidents/incidents in the accident book.

(iv)Development

  1. To attend meetings as appropriate.
  2. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Lunchtime Manager.
