Dear English Student:

The purpose of the recent Mid-Term Assessment (MTA) is to identify students who may not pass the Writing Competency Examination (WCE) at the end of the course. You did not score well and, therefore, are at risk.

Fortunately, there is enough time to remedy the situation, and there are several options available to you:

1.Your professoris now aware that you might have trouble with the WCE. You should begin to meet with your instructor on a regular basis outside of class time. Teachers’ office hours are posted on or near their doors and most are willing to meet with students at other times by appointment.

2.The Programmed Learning Center on the first floor of the Student Center Building is staffed with people trained to help you. They have computer programs and remedial software for students who prefer self-paced work. You do not need an appointment; however, once you have made contact, regular appointments are available.

3.The College has a students-helping-students program. All you need to do is go to the Programmed Learning Center on the first floor of the Student Center Building and ask for a tutor (in this case, for a tutor in English.) A fellow student who has done well in English courses will be assigned to help you. The College pays the tutor; there is no cost to you.

You are urged to avail yourself of one or more of your options. Remember, if you do not pass the WCE, you must repeat ENG 101.
