How to get to Armenia:

By air:There are direct flights from Paris, London, Amsterdam,

Vienna, Athens, Frankfurt, Berlin,Zurich, Prague, Warszawa, Istanbul, Minsk, Kiev, Saint-Petersburg, Moscow and other cities of Russian Federation. There are also many charter and transit flights from other European countries, as well as everyday flights to Armenia via Moscow.

Meeting point:If you inform us about your arrival details in advance, volunteers of your camp will meet you in the airport and take you to your camp.

But if you decide to make your own way to HUJ office, take a bus number 107 from the airport and get off at the last bus stop near the Opera House.

Try not to be late for the beginning of the workcamp.

VISAHUJ provides you with free visa in Armenian Embassies in the capitals of the following countries: France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Belgium, Greece, Poland, Switzerland (Geneva), Austria, Spain (Valencia), Romania, Bulgaria, USA(Washington, Los Angeles) and Canada.

If you don’t have Armenian Embassy in your country you can also get the visa in the airport in Yerevan for3000 AMD (8 USD) - 21 days, 15000 AMD (39 USD) - 120 days (Can be paid in Euro or USD according to the exchange rate of the arrival day).

Work:

Some of our camps have become traditional. Types of the works in our workcamps are ecological, cultural, aesthetic workwith children. The work is expected to be interesting and various.

Accommodation and food:

Do not worry about sleeping bags. You can leave them at home, as you will stay in the building/cottages of the hosting organizations where you will be provided with beds and bedding packs. Making beds and keeping the rooms neat and clean every day is obligatory.

Volunteers will prepare the food themselves. You will taste all kinds of Armenian traditional food and drinks, such as dolma, kabab, khorovats (barbecue), incomparable fruits of AraratValley - of apricots, grapes, peaches, apples, berries and a big assortment of vegetables.

Leisure time:

Armenia is called an open-air museum. A lot of interesting excursions and visits to historical monuments, ancient churches and monasteries, temples and museums will be organized during the workcamp.

The following excursions will be financed from the budgets of the workcamps: Echmiadzin Mother Cathedral, Zvartnots Cathedral ruins, GarniPaganTemple, Geghard Monastery Complex, LakeSevan(with a picnic on the beach). Volunteers will also visit Matenadaran-storehouse of ancient manuscripts, Historical Museum of Armenia, National Gallery of Armenia, ModernArt Museum, Erebuni-museum of the city foundation, museum of famous film director S.Parajanov, Vernisaj – Armenian big souvenirs market under the open sky.

What to bring with you:

It is very important to take along different table games, songbooks, children song CDs for work with children and for using in the performances/concerts to be organized for the last day of the workcamp.

During the workcamp volunteers will be organizing the “Day of the country” which the volunteer is representing so please bring photos and booklets describing your country, recipes of national dishes.

You will have free time after the work, so you can bring your music instruments, CDs with your favorite national songs and music and of course your high spirit and your creativity.

In Armenian camps you have to be disciplined and organized.

HUJ 1ZATIK

Dates: 20 July-4 August, 2011

Location:Zatik orphanage

The orphanage “Zatik” is located in Yerevan. There are 60-70orphan children living in the orphanage.The camp in this venue will be organized for the 8th time this year.

Work:

The volunteers will have the following tasks: aesthetic education of children, concert/performance for the last day of the camp and renovation work on the territory of the orphanage.

In the morning the volunteers will be involved in renovation work and in the afternoon work with childrento organize a big concert/performance on the last day of the workcamp. The decorations will all be prepared by the volunteers and the children themselves. The children together with the volunteers will be the main actors and directors of the performance. Each country should present some national song, dance or a performance that will present their country’s culture, traditions with the participation of the children and the volunteers themselves.

During the workcamp volunteers will organize different workgroups for children, where they can draw, sculpture, dance, sing.Children will also play intellectual games, attend elementary English, German and French and other language courses by their wish, physical training classes and other things according to the talents and abilities of the volunteers.

Volunteers will have to bring CDs with national songs and a developed idea on his/her own part of the concert/performance.

Accommodation:

Volunteers will stay in the orphanage. They will be provided with beds.

HUJ 2 Botanical Garden

Location:NationalBotanicalGarden-Yerevan

The Botanical Garden is situated in the north-eastern part of Yerevan(80 ha).We are opening a workcamp in this place for the 6th time already.The Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Science is responsible for plant collections in Armenia. It holds rich herbarium as well as collection of 1070 species which represent 40% of the national collection and shrubs which represent 51% of the collection. The collection of Armenian flora includes around 200 species of endemic, rare and declining plant species, and provides a basis for the study of Armenian flora, and the ecological interactions of species, in a relatively natural environment.

Work:

The main aim of this camp is to perform a variety of environmental maintenance projects: taking care of spaces of the Garden, clearing the paths, taking out the weeds, cultivating the trees, preparing the trees for planting, cleaning of the territoryetc.

The staff of the Botanical Garden will organize a seminar for volunteers on the theme of environment and nature.

Accommodation and food:

Volunteers will live in aseparate building on the territory of the Botanical Garden. They will be provided with mats and beds.

HUJ 3Rehabilitation Center

Location:Yerevan Rehabilitation Centre for Children

The camp is situated not far from the center of Yerevan, next to the artificial LakeYerevan. The territory of the RehabilitationCenter was former Governmental rest house.

The camp will be opened for the 16thtime and has become a popular and traditional one. Most of the children are having treatment here every year and are looking forward to meeting the volunteers in summer.

Work:

The aim of this camp is to organize the leisure time of children with motor-system infringement and cardio-vascular system diseases and to do some environmental work on the territory.

Volunteers’ day will begin from ecological work: maintaining the territory, cleaning children’s playground from weeds and grass, painting and some renovation work.After the children finish their therapy, volunteers gather together with children to draw, sculpture, sing and dance, do physical training, play games.

At the end of the camp volunteers and children will organize a farewell party.

Volunteers will bring along a lot of ideas, spirit, love, warmth, kindness and make the stay of these children in this Center a great holiday. They make these children feel that they are needed, full-valued and help them to open their talents and abilities.

There must be a strict discipline in the camp.

Accommodation:

Volunteers will stay in a separate comfortable cottageon the territory of the RehabilitationCenter and sleep on beds.

Special requirements:Volunteers are requested to read methodicliterature about work and special games for disabled children. Volunteers are also asked to bring different games and face-paint for the work with children.

HUJ 4 SOS - Kinderdorf

Location: SOS Children’s village

The campin SOS Children’s village is organized for the 8th time this year. It is situated in the region of Abovyan (15km from Yerevan).

The SOS Children’s Village is a place where children-orphans found their new mothers, sisters and brothers and live in families.It is concerned about all children, particularly those who have no parental care and those whose families have to live in difficult conditions. 6-7 children live in separate cottages with their SOS mothers. SOS Children’s village in Armenia is built and is financed bySOS-Kinderdorf international non-governmental social development organization.

SOS Children's Villages revolve around the effort to give children who have lost their parents or who are no longer able to live with them a permanent home and a stable environment. The SOS Children's Village family-like structure is formed by four basic principles: mother, brothers and sisters, house and village.

This camp has become a popular and traditional one and children are looking forward to meeting the volunteers in summer.

Work:

Volunteers will participate in most activities with the children and have a variety of different tasks:

They’ll organize workshops - painting, sculpturing, handicrafts, dancing, singing, sports, language lessons, leisure time games.

The main aim of the camp is the organization of a big performance and an exhibition of works which will be presented in the end by volunteers and children. The concert/performance will be organized by the active participation of the children and the volunteers, where the volunteers together with children will make an interesting presentation of the national songs, dances, traditions of each country that the volunteers come from.

Also the volunteers will do ecological and renovation work on the territory. The details will be provided at the time of the workcamp.

Accommodations:

Volunteers will live in a comfortable cottage on the territory of the village.

HUJ 5 SOS - Kinderdorf Ijevan

Location: SOS Children’s village

The camp in SOS Children’s village is organized for the 2nd time this year. It is situated in the region of Tavush (143 km from Yerevan).

The SOS Children’s Village is a place where children-orphans found their new mothers, sisters and brothers and live in families. The camp is situated in a secondary school in Yerevan. There are 650 pupils studying in this school.

The main aim of the workcamp is the aesthetic education of children and ecological-renovation work on the territory of the school.

Location: “Hrazdan’’ Stadium

“Hrazdan” Stadium is situated on the height leading to the picturesque canyon of Hrazdan river which divides the city into two parts. Thanks to the exact architectural decision the stadium and the sport-complex have become an original component of the architectural harmony and dynamically fulfills to the beautiful landscape.

Work:

The stadium has been renovated recently. Volunteers will do painting, cleaning up and maintaining the territory of the stadium.
