MINUTES FOR MISSION
GETTING TO KNOW
A PARTNER IN INDIA
The Presbyterian Church in Canada began mission work in India in 1877 and brought that work into the United Church of Canada at the time of union in 1925.
In 1971 the church in India also underwent union. The United Church of Northern India joined with six other denominations to form the Church of North India (CNI).
So began a new relationship between The United Church of Canada and the CNI. Financial and human resources were shared / and over the years CNI and the United Church have continued to seek ways to strengthen their partnership.
CNI’s priorities are to encourage interfaith dialogue and to support those who are oppressed and marginalized. This includes women, Dalits (people of low caste), Adivasis (tribal people) and youth.
CNI’s extensive health program has over 60 hospitals, 20 nursing schools, and community health programs in more than 100 villages.
An extensive HIV/AIDS program focuses on education for youth and high-risk people and provides treatment and hospice care.
In India, 2.5 million children starve to death annually, almost 50 percent of children are malnourished and 38 percent drop out of school.
CNI calls upon its members not to employ children, to create special learning opportunities, to tithe their givings for children’s welfare, to link the support of more affluent urban dioceses to rural areas, and to commit to time with under-privileged and special children.
Your gifts to the Mission and Service Fund contribute to this important, longstanding partnership. Your gifts enable this vital work in North India. / REFLECTIONS

LOVE’S PERFECT LIGHT

JESUS CALLING

Approach problems with a light touch. When your mind moves toward a problem area, you tend to focus on that situation so intensely that you lose sight of Me. You pit yourself against the difficulty, as if you had to conquer it immediately. Your mind gears up for battle, and your body becomes tense and anxious. Unless you achieve total victory, you feel defeated.
There is a better way. When a problem starts to overshadow your thoughts, bring the matter to Me. Talk with Me about it and look at it in the Light of My Presence. This puts some much-needed space between you and your concern, enabling you to see from My perspective. You will be surprised at the results. Sometimes you may even laugh at yourself for being so serious about something so insignificant.
You will always face trouble in this life. But more importantly, you will always have Me with you, helping you to handle whatever you encounter. Approach problems with a light though by viewing them in My revealing Light. / LAUGH LINES

·  While attending a Marriage Seminar on communication, David and his wife listened to the instructor declare, “It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other. The instructor addressed the man, “Can you describe your wife’s favourite flower?” David leaned over, touched his wife’s arm gently and whispered, “Robin Hood All-Purpose, isn’t it?”
·  A passenger in a taxi heading for Manchester station, leaned over to ask the driver a question and gently tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove up over the curb and stopped just inches from a large, plate glass window. For a few moments, everything was silent in the cab. Then, the shaking driver said, “Are you OK? I’m so sorry, but you scared the daylights out of me.” / The badly shaken passenger apologized to the driver and said, “I didn’t realize that a mere tap on the shoulder would startle someone so badly.” The driver replied, “No, no, I’m the one who is sorry. It’s entirely my fault. Today is my very first day driving a cab. I’ve been driving a hearse for 25 years….
