[TR1]

Have you ever thought about what caused conflict between the Indians and the white settlers? There are many reasons why there was conflict. Such as assimilation which forced them to go into American schools and learn English. Or how the white settlers treated there land and buffalo like it was nothing to them.[TR2]

One of the many reasons there was conflict between them was because the treatment of the land and buffalo. Because the attitude the Indians had towards the buffalo and the land was totally different from the settlers. First off the Indians used everything from the land and the buffalo, they were not waste full[TR3]. They also had respect for the land because the land was sacred to them and fault[TR4] at one with the earth. And everything it had to offer. Like they used the land as theirhome they would thank the gods for the land with rituals. With the buffalo they used there[TR5] hides as clothing and for their teepees. They also thought that the land could never be owned because it was here before everyone else. (Touch the earth)[TR6]

The settler’s attitude toward the land and the buffalo was they used it for and economic gain as well as people using for a political gain[TR7]. The settlers didn’t have any respect for the land of the buffalo they thought of it as a type of sport. They killed off buffalo as a military stragey[TR8] to kill of the Native American’s way of life. The US government also thought that the land was something that could be sold to make money off of. They had no emotional attachment to the land or the buffalo. Like the Indians did. [TR9]The cause of this was because these two people came from to different cultures and ways of life.

The final reason for their conflict was assimilation which forced native American’s to leave to leave their old ways of life and go live a totally different way of life. In a walk in two worlds [TR10]the girl is scared doesn’t understand anything from what’s going on to what they are saying. She feels lost and unsure. And in a reading I read called Learning Lakota that when they forced assimilation on the Indians there was a very high dropout rate and gangs and as well as teen pregnancy went up in the schools. [TR11]They would beat then[TR12] if they spoke their native language. The government thought they were helping them in a way but other than that the government was forcing assimilation on them so there were more people to pay taxes and give the US more money and not having to find new places to move them.

These are just a few out of many reasons there was conflict between the Indians and the white settlers. The overall reason for the forced assimilation and the horrible treatment of the land and buffalo is because. They came from different cultures and different ways of like they didn’t understand each other or where they were coming from[TR13][TR14].

[TR1]Katelyn- thank you for your rough draft! A couple of things to start- please change your font to Times New Roman, 12 point and make sure to indent all paragraphs. Then, go to Insert, page number and choose the right justify option, then put your last name in front of the number that shows up in gray- then all your page numbers will automatically be on and in the right spot!

[TR2]The thesis needs to be a little bit clearer- so I recommend rewording it slightly. First of all, make it one sentence instead of two, and there should be three topics, instead of what looks like two to me right now. We can work on this together if you’d like.

[TR3]Wasteful – one word

[TR4]felt

[TR5]their

[TR6]Katelyn- maybe add a specific quote from one of the Touch the Earth stories here- and when you cite it, it should look like this (McLuhan). Inside the punctuation. Take the first word from the works cited, and add that in.

[TR7]Very good- social science perspectives again!

[TR8]strategy

[TR9]Put these two sentences together as they lack expressing a complete thought by themselves. Also- do you think you could add Property Values quotation to this paragraph? It would fit and make your paragraph stronger!

[TR10]Capitalize and quotations as this was a documentary.

[TR11]Very good- you might add the citation at the end of the sentence like this (Kilman).

[TR12]them

[TR13]Put these together.

[TR14]Not too bad. Please follow the rules of conclusions we talked about- move to present day issues, make me care, call me to action, something. Overall you did a pretty good job! Thanks for your effort!

[TR15]Annotate your works cited, but I’m glad you have it attached! Way to go! And annotation can be single spaced. Thanks!
