PLE Instructions for Figuring SY 2017-18 Calculator

The tool is presented in an Excel spreadsheet divided up into 7 tabs (each listed at the bottom of the tool) that runs from left to right starting with the letter A and ending with G.

If your district has never completed the Paid Lunch Equity (PLE) calculator, start with Step 1.

If your district completed the PLE calculator for SY 2016-17, start with Step 3.4

1.  A. Figure your SY 2010-2011 Weighted Average Price (WAP)

1.1.  Click on Tab A

1.2.  Enter in the monthly number of Paid Lunches served to students followed by the paid lunch price (complete one cell for each school in your district)

1.3.  Your SY 2010-2011 WAP will populate in the bottom of the furthermost right hand column

2.  B. Figure your SY 2016-2017 Weighted Average Price (WAP)

2.1.  Click on Tab B

2.2.  Enter in the monthly number of Paid Lunches served to students followed by the paid lunch price (complete one cell for each school in your district)

2.3.  Your SY 2016-2017 WAP will populate in the bottom of the furthermost right hand column

3.  C. Enter SY 2010-2011 WAP into Unrounded Requirement Finder

3.1.  Click on Tab C. If you completed the PLE calculator for the previous school year, skip to step 3.4.

3.2.  Enter the SY 2010-11 WAP as calculated in Step 1.3 into the peach colored box halfway down the screen labeled, “SY 2010-11 Weighted Average Price.”

3.3.  Once the number is entered, the fields to the right of that box will populate your SY 2016-17 paid lunch price requirement

3.4.  Enter your SY 2016-17 paid lunch price requirement into the peach colored box at the top of the screen labeled, “Enter the SY 2016-17 Unrounded Price Requirement in the box below.” This number can be found either from “Price 2: SY 2016-17 Requirement price to the nearest cent” (Step 3.3) OR if you completed the PLE calculator from the previous school year, from Section 1: Box A of your SY 2016-17 PLE Report. The box to the right of that will populate your SY 2017-18 unrounded WAP Requirement

4.  D. Enter Information into SY 16+-17 Price Calculator

4.1.  Click on Tab D

4.2.  At the top of the page the unrounded price requirement from the previous page has automatically populated into its corresponding box and, if applicable, has been rounded down to the nearest 5 cents

4.3.  Copy and paste the figures from your SY 2016-2017 (from tab B) WAP Calculator into the SY 2016-2017 WAP on this page

4.4.  Once your WAP for 16-17 has been calculated the blue box below labeled, “Total Price Increase for SY 2017-18” will populate

4.5.  The grey box (labeled “Required price increase for SY 2017-18 (with 10 cent cap”)) below the blue box tells you the new lunch price with the 10 cent price increase

4.6.  If there is a credit/or debit carried forward to the next year the remaining green boxes will populate with this number

5.  Optional Pricing Estimation Calculator

5.1.  Included on this page is an optional pricing calculator (located at the bottom and labeled “Pricing Estimation Calculator”) which allows you to manipulate your current prices in order to reach your new WAP. You can also use this calculator to determine your current WAP.

5.2.  Copy and paste your Monthly # of Paid Lunches and Paid Lunch Price from your SY 2016-2017 WAP Calculator into the Price Estimating Calculator

5.3.  Feel free to alter the prices of the lunches in order to reach your newly determined WAP

6.  E. SY 16-17 NonFederal Calculator

6.1.  Click on Tab E

6.2.  In the top peach colored box (cell D13) enter your current WAP which you calculated using the SY 16-17 Price Calculator (cell E25 in Tab D)

6.3.  There will be a second peach colored box down and to the left labeled, “Enter annual # of Paid Lunches for SY2015-16.” Enter the total number of paid lunches for SY 2015-16 in this box

7.  F. SY 16-17 Split Calculator

7.1.  Click on Tab F

7.2.  Copy and paste the figures from your SY 2016-2017 WAP Calculator into the SY 2016-2017 WAP on this page

7.3.  In the peach box beneath the blue box labeled, “New Price Increase” enter your new price increase (Note: this price should be less than the proposed 10 cent increase. A 5 cent increase would be a good place to start. If the proposed 10 cent increase is $2.55 start at $2.50.)

7.4.  In the box labeled, “Non-Federal Source Contribution Calculator for SY 2017-18”, enter the total number of paid lunches for SY 2015-16 in this box

7.5.  If applicable, enter the total amount of Non-Federal Source Funds Contributed for SY 2011-12 through SY 2016-17

8.  G. Report Tab

8.1.  Click on Tab G

8.2.  Scroll down to the box labeled, “Section 2: Amounts Carried Forward to SY 2018-19”

8.3.  Select the arrow and choose from the populated list

8.4.  If selecting “Increase SY 2017-2018 average weighted price” enter in the new WAP for 2017-2018 in the blue box below boxes A and B (Note if there is a credit or debit carried forward to the next school year)

8.5.  If selecting “”Contribute Non-Federal sources for SY 2017-2018” Enter in the amount of non-federal sources contributed into the blue box below boxes C and D along with the source of those funds (Note if there is a credit or debit carried forward to the next school year)

8.6.  If selecting “Both” Enter in the amount of non-federal sources contributed into the blue box below boxes E and F along with the source of those funds (Note if there is a credit or debit carried forward to the next school year)

8.7.  If selecting “At or Above Equity” enter in the WAP for SY 2017-2018
