Skill / Description / Scoring
1 / Beat a player to the right, and pass to a target. The player collects the ball from the start gate, proceeds left of the cone, then pulls the ball past the stick on the ground, and passes to their “team mate”, 15m away.
Emphasis: pull to the right, accurate pass / 2 Points for a pass through the centre gate
1 Point for a pass between the outer cones and the centre gate, or for a pass that hits the centre cones
0 Points for passes beyond the outer cones
2 / Shooting and goal scoring. The player collects the ball from the start gate, and proceeds to gate A (rightmost), where s/he shoots at goal. S/he repeats the procedure for gates B through E. Then back to A, etc.
Emphasis: accurate shots / 2 Points for a goal scored in either corner of the box
1 Point for a goal scored in the middle of the box, or for a goal that hits the centre cones
0 Points for shots that do not enter the goal
3 / Passing to the right with the reverse stick, and to the left with the open stick. The player collects the ball from the start gate, proceeds to the centre channel, and passes, reverse stick. S/he then moves to the opposite gate, collects another ball, proceeds to the centre channel, and passes, open stick.
Emphasis: accurate passes, sufficient power to cross the line / 2 Points for a pass made through both sets of cones in the channel
1 Point for a pass made through the first set of cones in the channel only
0 Points for passes made that do not clear any cone pairs in the channel
4 / Dribble and lift over the stick. The player runs with the ball to the first gate, and lifts the ball over the first obstacle with the open stick, and moves past the stick to the left. The player then runs with the ball, around the far cone, to the second obstacle, and lifts the ball over, with the reverse stick. The player moves past the stick, to the right.
Emphasis: measured running, dropping the shoulders to make the lift / 2 Points for each successful lift over the obstacle
0 Points for the ball struck into the obstacle, or dribbled around the obstacle
2 Players to sit by the sticks, to replace them when knocked over; player doing the skill must know they cannot run through the seated players, and must move around the other side of the obstacles
5 / Open stick dribble. The player starts in one gate, moves to the left of the centre cone, then to the right of the far gate. S/he then arcs, to bring the ball through the far gate. The procedure is repeated to result in a “koeksister” running pattern.
Emphasis: open stick only, points lost for use of the reverse stick / 2 Points for each gate successfully negotiated with the open stick only
0 Points for extensive use of reverse stick for control
1 Point deduction for occasional use of reverse stick
6 / Moving the ball to the left and the right. The player enters the course in a straight line, and stays on that line. S/he moves the ball to the outside of each cone, in turn. At the end of the course, the player rounds the last cone, and repeats the skill on the return run.
Emphasis: stay on the line, only the ball moves outside the cones, measured running / 1 Point for each cone successfully passed on the outside
0 Points for any cone bumped or missed completely on the inside

Score sheet:

Born in 2008 or 2007 = under 10

Born in 2006or 2005 = under 12

Born in 2004 = under 13

Remember to score in the line of the skill you are managing. Do not automatically start at the top.

Use the ‘Scoring’ column to jot down the 1s and 2s as they are scored by the player. Once the 60 seconds is over, add up the numbers and place the total in the ‘SCORE’ column.

Once your group has completed, all players to sit down, and wait for other groups that might have an extra, to complete. Only once all groups are totally finished, move on. Walk clockwise with your group, to the next skill, and hand the clipboard to the next coach.

For skills 1, 2, 3, allocate two players to stand behind the skill area to collect up the balls. Only once the 60 seconds has passed, must they roll the balls back to the start gate(s). If you’re running out of balls mid-skill, signal them to roll one or two back, along the sides.
