Park hours: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. EST /7:30 p.m. DST
Description of work involved / Assisting park staff by walking nature trails, reporting issues on nature trail via phone or -mail, such as litter, damage, unusual sighting or occurrence; documenting via checklist, photos, or verbal reports; greeting customers, surveying park patrons; picking up litter as needed; assisting staff with planting and/or exotic removal; assisting with interpretation or programs. Volunteer may perform any or all of these tasks.
Volunteer should be responsible, friendly, and outgoing; should work well with others; and most important to us, should be proud to serve the community.
Hours volunteers can work / Park administration office hours of operation are 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Volunteer work schedule is flexible.
Level of difficulty
1=easy
5=physically demanding / 2-Able to walk trail length.
1-Able to report to park staff.
2-Able to walk trails a few times a month.
4- exotic removal/ planting.
Skills required / Basic communication skills and knowledge of park trails and rules. Some general knowledge of plants and wildlife is helpful.
Shady or full sun area / Outdoor: 80 percent sun; weather may vary.
Access to restroom facilities / No restroom at this location.
How many volunteers are needed for this project?
Individuals
Small Group-up to 30
Large Group-over 30 / Individuals can be scheduled for different days and/or times.
How often do volunteers need to work on site? / A minimum of four hours per month.
Tools and equipment provided / Will provide equipment as needed.
Tools volunteers can bring if desired / Pen, paper, camera, plastic grocery bags, gloves, etc.
Personal items to bring / The following items are recommended: protective, weather-appropriate clothing and shoes; sunscreen, insect repellent as needed; snacks/beverages/lunch.
Personal Protective Equipment will be provided as needed / Not applicable.

Volunteer Application Deadline / Must be submitted a minimum of two weeks prior to start. Ongoing volunteers need to fill out the Volunteer Application, which requires a background check.
Orientation/Training / Volunteers will receive orientation/training on the first day and will continue as needed.
Restrictions / None.
Extra comments / This is a great opportunity for individuals to learn about various duties and tasks in the parks and recreation field, observing and learning plant and animal wildlife and helping serve park patrons who visit Snake Warrior’s Island Natural Area.
