A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE CITADEL FOOTBALL TEAM OF 1960 FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TANGERINE BOWL VICTORY, AND TO HONOR THE EXCEPTIONAL PLAYERS AND COACH EDDIE TEAGUE.
Whereas, the game of football affords young people the opportunity to learn the importance of dedication and teamwork while developing amazing athletic talents; and
Whereas, becoming a champion in this sport requires every member of the team and coaching staff to have special leadership skills and physical prowess, as well as a finely honed ability to communicate effectively on the field; and
Whereas, using these talents, in concert with pure drive, determination, and countless hours of hard work, the members of The Citadel Football Team of 1960 had an outstanding season with an overall record of seven wins, three losses, and one tie, including five shutouts; and
Whereas, with an outstanding performance from a top notch team and the superb coaching of Head Coach Eddie Teague, the Bulldogs became the first and only Citadel team to participate in a bowl game; and
Whereas, in the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando, Florida, the Bulldogs shut out Tennessee Tech 270 to cap the 1960 season on December thirtieth; and
Whereas, captains of this exceptional team were Jerry Nettles, George Garrison, and Harry Rakowski; and
Whereas, Coach Teague was named Southern Conference Coach of the Year, Earley Eastburn and Bill Gilgo were named to the AllSouthern Conference Team, and Bill Gilgo and Harry Rakowski were named to the AllSouth Carolina Team; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina are pleased to recognize the men of the 1960 Citadel Football Team for their incredible season and bowl win. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate The Citadel Football Team of 1960 for its outstanding season and Tangerine Bowl victory and honor the exceptional players and Coach Eddie Teague.
