Task 1: Speaking and Listening Weight: 25%

Module: Area of Study- Belonging Due Date: Monday 2nd December 2013

Term 4 Week 9

PART A: Speech 15%

You have been invited to give a presentation at a Youth Forum on your Area of Study – Belonging. Present to the Youth Forum your ideas on aspects of Belonging. Explain what your texts have to say about Belonging. You should explore how the texts depict Belonging. Consider how your study of Belonging has challenged your understanding of your world and yourself.

In this presentation you will be expected to:

- Clearly identify the features of Belonging in the prescribed text and TWO related texts of your own choice.

Length: The presentation should be a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes. Time limits must be adhered to. Any presentation over time will be stopped at five minutes (Students whose speech is under time will not access higher grades as they will not meet the task requirement).

PART B: Listening 10%

You are required to listen to the presentations. You will be given a marking criteria to formally assess ONE student’s presentation of your choice. You are required to allocate a mark and provide a comment. Your comment needs to constructively address each one of the five dot points provided on the marking criteria. Your comment should include all aspects of the speech that were well presented and where possible, areas in which the speaker could improve.

Note: Part B is to be handed into your teacher by the end of Week 9 Term 4. The student whom you choose to assess will not receive your feedback. You will be marked out of 10 on your ability to assess the work of your peers.

·  Clearly identifies the features of Belonging in texts

·  Clearly demonstrates textual knowledge

·  Clearly demonstrates analysis of how the concept of Belonging is conveyed in the texts

·  Clearly organises, develops and expresses ideas using language appropriate to audience, purpose, context and form.

ALL STUDENTS MUST BE PREPARED TO HAND IN AND PRESENT THEIR SPEECH ON THE DUE DATE, EVEN THOUGH YOU MAY NOT BE CALLED TO PRESENT ON THE DAY.

PART B MUST BE HANDED IN BY WEEK 8 FOR TRADE SCHOOL AND WEEK 10 FOR STANDARD.

N.B: IN THE ABSENCE OF APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTATION, FAILURE TO COMPLETE THE TASK ON THE SET DATE, OR FAILURE TO ATTEMPT THE TASK IN A SERIOUS AND/OR SATISFACTORY MANNER WILL RESULT IN AN N-AWARD WARNING LETTER. A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE AND/ OR APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTATION MUST BE ATTACHED TO AN APPEAL FORM SHOULD YOU MISS THE TASK.

In order to achieve a result in the A band for the presentation of your speech, you will need to stand with confidence and maintain consistent eye contact. You will be required to speak fluently with a varied tone and appropriate volume.
