ThisdocumentprovidesanoverviewoftheoutcomesandassessmentcriteriaforStandard12:BasicLifeSupport.ItidentifiesthecriteriawithintheStandardthat shouldhavebeenachieveduponsuccessfulcompletionoftheunderpinningknowledgewithintheCareCertificateworkbook.Employeesmustdemonstratetheir competenceinpracticeinordertofullyachievethisStandardoftheCareCertificate.
Thisprogresslogandsign-offdocumentshouldbecompletedjointlybytheemployeeandthemanager/supervisor/assessor toconfirmthatalloutcomesandcriteria havebeenachievedinpracticeintheworksetting.Supplementaryevidencecanbeattachedtodemonstrateachievementanditissuggestedtodosoasgoodpractice.
ThisdocumentalsoprovidesanoutlineofthesuggestedmappingofoutcomesandcriteriawithinStandard11:BasicLifeSupportoftheCareCertificatetothe recommendedQualificationsandCreditFramework(QCF)unit,theNationalMinimumTrainingStandardsforHealthcareSupportWorkersandAdultSocialCare WorkersinEnglandandtheCommonInductionStandards.Thisdocumentdoesnotnecessarilyindicatedirectmappingofcriteriaandthereforeassessorsand/
ormanagersshouldensuretheyfollowtheguidancebelow.Pleasenotethatwhenthetermassessorisusedthroughoutthisdocumentthiscouldbethemanager, supervisororassessorandwillbedecidedbytheemployingorganisation.
ThisdocumentshouldalwaysbeusedinconjunctionwiththeguidanceprovidedintheCareCertificateFrameworkTechnicalDocument.
Guidanceforassessors
Assessorsmustensurethatthelearnerhasproducedevidenceforeachassessmentcriterionthatisvalid,authentic,reliable,currentandsufficient.Therefore assessorsmustnotassumethatifthemappingdocumentindicatesacriterioncouldhavealreadybeenachieved,themappedcriteriawithintheQCFunitshould automaticallybeawarded.LearnersandassessorsareresponsibleforensuringthattheoutcomesandcriteriawithintheQCFunitandstandardsbelowhavebeen achievedtotherequiredstandard.Forreference,withinthecolumnthatreferstocoverageoftherelevantQCFunit,aPindicatesthattheCareCertificatecriteria providespartialcoverageoftherelevantcriteriawithintheQCFunit,whereasanFindicatesfullcoverage.
TheAssessmentmethodusedcolumnis includedtoallowassessorstoprovideevidenceofthetypeofassessmentmethodthathasbeenusedtoassesstheCare Certificatecriteria.ThisislikelytobenotedastheCareCertificateWorkbook,however,furtherevidencecouldincludeprofessionaldiscussion,observation,question andanswer,e-learning,witnesstestimony,etc.Thiscolumncanalsobecompletedtoevidencecompetenceusingtheseexampleassessmentmethods.
TheEvidencelocationcolumnisincludedtoprovideaclearsignposttowherethelearner’sevidencecanbefound.Thismaybewithinaportfolioofevidence,a continuedprofessionaldevelopment(CPD)fileorelectronicallyviae-learningore-portfolio.
