Joint Base Lewis-McChord Retiree Health Fair 2010

Your Retiree Health Fair is Coming on Friday, May 14, 2010.

Here is your opportunity to gather health-related information, resources, and social support information. There will also be some clinical testing available, so prepare to receive some health screenings. This is a great way to catch up on the latest health benefit information.

Please Read The Following Information To Help You Prepare For The Retiree Health Fair

v  The hours are from 0730-1300. The fair is over at one. Opens 0630 for blood draws.

v  Complete the registration form, forms for wills etc. (to include your email address if you have one), and bring it with you. This will make signing-in move faster and get you inside to the fair sooner.

v  If you would like to have blood drawn to determine your fasting blood sugar and/or cholesterol, you should not eat, drink (except water), or smoke after midnight. If you have morning medications, it is fine to take them with water. If you are diabetic, test your blood sugar at home and adjust your medications if you can. Expect a delay in your morning meal. We will be providing some light snacks and the dining area will have breakfast and lunch meals available for purchase.

The lab area will be open and ready to draw your blood as early as 6:30 AM. From there, you can go for a nice breakfast in the dining area.

v  Wear comfortable shoes. There are things to see in the center and in the convention tent. You also will be climbing stairs to get in and out of the trailer for hearing testing.

Blood Pressure Screenings: Please do not drink caffeinated beverages or smoke/chew 3 hours prior to screening.

v  If you want to have your feet evaluated, please wear shoes that are easy for you to slip on and off.

Please bring your shot records.

v  Consider wearing short sleeve shirts/blouses that button down the front to make the blood draw and other screenings easier. And, remember, that even in May, it gets warm in crowded areas.

v  Plan to be flexible.

v  Bring a notepad and a pencil, so you can make notes about things you learn.

Please, Please, Please! Complete the exit survey! We value your input and it helps us plan better.

The questions that will be asked are:

Ø  Was the fair valuable to you YES NO

NEED HELP REQUESTING

ADDITIONAL VA OR DoD COMPENSATION?

Your Washington Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) will again host a Compensation Review Station at the Annual Military Retiree Appreciation Day, on Friday, May 14, 2010. Last year many retirees took advantage of the assistance provided by Service Officers from the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs and several national Veteran Service Organizations and initiated/increased their VA disability ratings. Many of them also submitted applications for Combat Related Special Compensation (CRSC). Recent changes in Federal Law have created or expanded benefits for military retirees with service connected disabilities. Service Officers will be available to provide information on Concurrent Receipt (CRDP), and to assist with Combat Related Special Compensation (CRSC) applications.

**Bring all available records, including DD 214 and information on other VA benefits you currently receive**.

If you've never filed a VA claim, assistance will also be provided for initial claim preparation. Representatives from WDVA, many of the major Veteran Service Organizations, and the Federal VA will be available to answer questions and assist with applications for all attendees. For questions call 1-800-562-2308. We look forward to seeing you and your family at the 14 May 2010 Retiree Appreciation Day!

NEW TRICARE RETIREE DENTAL PROGRAM CONTRACT IS IN FULL SWING

Retirees and their family members are encouraged to attend this year’s Joint Base Lewis-McChord Retiree Appreciation Day on May 14. A representative for the TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP) will be present at this event, so be sure to stop by the TRDP table for important program information.

On October 1, 2008, Delta Dental of California began a new five-year term as administrator of the TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP). Delta Dental has administered the program since it began in 1998, and in the fall of 2007, the Department of Defense (DoD) awarded Delta Dental the contract to continue to administer the TRDP through September 2013.

The TRDP, authorized by Congress as part of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 1997, offers affordable dental benefits as a voluntary option to the nation’s five million-plus Uniformed Services retirees and their eligible family members. With a current enrollment of over 1.2 million covered lives, the TRDP is the nation’s largest voluntary, all-enrollee-paid dental program.

With the new contract that started in Oct 2008, the Enhanced TRDP features some additions to an already comprehensive scope of benefits, such as coverage of dental implant services at 50 percent of allowable charges, an increase in the orthodontic lifetime maximum from $1,200 to $1,500, and 80 percent coverage for posterior composite fillings.

Also starting that same time, TRDP benefits under the new Enhanced-Overseas Program were made available to retirees and their eligible family members who reside overseas. Until then, enrollees had to return to the Enhanced TRDP service area to receive dental care. Additionally, Enhanced Program enrollees who live within the service area are now covered for emergency treatment when they are traveling outside the service area.

The TRDP is a national, combined fee-for-service/preferred provider program that offers enrollees access to any licensed dentist in all 50 states as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and Canada. While enrollees may seek care from any licensed dentist in this service area, optimal benefits will be available to those enrolled retirees and their family members who choose a participating network dentist.

After a mandatory 12-month enrollment obligation is satisfied, enrollees can remain in the program on a month-to-month basis. The Basic Program remains closed to new enrollees but continues with no change in benefits for those already enrolled and who wish to remain enrolled.

The TRDP carries a $50-per-person-per-year deductible with a family cap of $150 and an annual maximum of $1,200 per person ($1,000 for Basic Program enrollees) against which preventive and diagnostic services are not counted. Coverage for these services as well as for basic restorative services, periodontic services, endodontic services, oral surgery and dental emergencies is available immediately upon the effective date of coverage.

Crowns, bridges, full and partial dentures, many implant services and orthodontics will be available after only 12 months of continuous enrollment, payable at 50 percent.

More information about the TRDP, including how to enroll online, can be found on the TRDP web site at www.trdp.org or by calling Delta Dental toll-free at 888-838-8737.
