Agricultural Scholarship for Second Year Students

Mrs Heather Mitchell, family and friends established the Lester Mitchell Award in memory of Lester Mitchell PhC, MBE, who made a significant contribution to farming in the Mallee. The award is to be made to an appropriate young person preferably under thirty years of age to further his or her knowledge and understanding of agriculture.

1.  Type of Award and Eligibility

The Lester Mitchell Award will be awarded to fund one scholarship of $4,000, or two scholarships, each of $2,000. Eligible students will be enrolled in a full-time course and be in their second year of study at Longerenong College. Approved courses include the Certificate IV in Agriculture, Diploma of Agronomy and Advanced Diploma of Agriculture. A full-time enrolment is deemed to be not less than 800 student contact hours in a calendar year.

Students articulating from Certificate IV in Agriculture to Advanced Diploma of Agriculture are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

The scholarship is to be awarded before the completion of Term 1 and fees deducted as soon as practicable after that time. The scholarship funds will be deducted from the student’s course fees and/or cost of accommodation and meals.

2.  Selection Criteria

The scholarship/s will be awarded on merit. Preference is given to applicants who:

·  Have achieved adequate academic results in first year at Longerenong College.

·  Have shown a commitment to study and life at Longerenong College.

·  Have illustrated leadership qualities amongst the Longerenong College student body.

·  Reside in the college student accommodation.

·  Are under 30 years of age

Initial assessment of applicants will be based on written submissions. Applicants may be required to attend a subsequent interview at the discretion of the panel.

3. How to apply
