Objective

The objective of the White Badge and National Chair Umpire Development Group is to maximise the potential of newly ITF certified and non-ITF certified officials regularly working at professional events. The LTA commit to enhance and increase the experience of the Group Members to allow them to progress to the next level of their officiating career.

Criteria for Membership

The LTA will review certain criteria before finalising the membership of the White Badge and National Chair Umpire Development Group which includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • The official must be in good standing with LTA Officiating holding a current Officials Licence
  • The official has demonstrated the potential, aptitude and ability to pass a future ITF Level 3 or Level 2 School as a Chair Umpire
  • The official works in excess of the minimum annual requirements for retention of existing grade as set by ABTO specifically including the number of matches worked at professional events
  • The official has received satisfactory evaluations at professional events in the previous year

LTA Officiating Commitment

The LTA will work with the members of the group and ABTO to ensure the following:

  • Priority selection at professional events in Great Britain
  • Setting of targets for each member of the group for the year
  • A mid-year review at The Championships to report on target progress and plan for remainder of the year
  • Opportunities to work at overseas events where appropriate
  • Sourcing of development tools for members of the group including mentor system, bespoke rules tests and group meetings
  • Endorsement of applications for ITF Level 2 and Level 3 Schools and overseas events where appropriate
