Family News

You may recall from our previous newsletter that Alexis Paulson-Ellis, our practice nurse, Jo Hynes one of our Health Care Assistants, and Chelsea Midmore one of our receptionists, had all taken maternity leave. We have been delighted to welcome them all back to the surgery.

Lauren joined us as part of an apprenticeship scheme with Kingston Academy in 2015. She was subsequently awarded “Apprentice of the Year” and hired as a permanent member of our reception team. We will be sad to see her leave the practice in mid-November as she moves forward with her career in secondary care. Dr Amun Kalia has joined us as a GP registrar and will be here until August 2017. We also have the pleasure of Dr Maria Mendoza Perez who is a qualified GP from Spain, learning the intricacies of the NHS and she will be with us until July 2017.

As always we are very privileged to have Foundation Year 2 doctors placed with us for 4 months of their training. Having said goodbye to Dr James Brittain and Dr Anne Katrine Leadholm we have welcomed Dr D Sachithana and Dr J Arulrajah to the surgery for their GP attachment.

As mentioned in our previous newsletter Dr Ben Yorke-Barber will be retiring at the end of this calender year. He will be missed by colleagues and patients alike but we wish him well in his retirement. Dr(s) Botting Plant and

Olney have reduced their hours in order to facilitate succession of the new partner. Many of you will recall Dr Alireza Salehzadeh was a Registrar with us a few years ago. He re-joined the surgery as a salaried GP in January of this year and will be joining the partnership in January 2017.

CQC

(Care Quality Commission)

Glebe Road surgery was visited by CQC in August this year. We are proud to report that we have received an overall rating of ‘Good’ with an ‘Outstanding’ under the criteria of ‘well-led’. All members of the practice team worked incredibly hard to prepare for the visit. We were humbled by the support from patients and members of the PPG (Patient Participation Group)who spoke with the inspectors. We are also grateful to our community partners; pharmacists, residential homes and safeguarding team who supported us in preparation for the inspection. A full report can be found here or at the website www.cqc.org.uk.

Your Flu Vaccination

It is that time of year again! We urge all eligible patients to obtain their flu vaccination at one of the walk-in clinics that are run at the surgery. The dates and times are available from reception and on our website. Flu has the potential to be very serious, particularly if you are in a high risk group.

It is recommended that you have a flu jab if you:

·  Are 65 years old or over

·  Are pregnant

·  have a serious medical condition (see our website for specific details)

·  are living in a long-stay residential care home or other long-stay care facility (not including prisons, young offender institutions or university halls of residence)

·  are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill

·  are a frontline health or social care worker

If you are the parent of a child who is over six months old and has a long-term condition on the list below, speak to your GP about the flu vaccine. Your child's condition may get worse if they catch flu. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the surgery.

Bins and Waste Disposal

We would like to advise our patients and local neighbours that we seeking solutions to improve our bin store area at the front of the surgery, which is in need of reconfiguring. Regrettably, there have been a couple of occasions when our domestic waste bags have come open. Please be assured that these refuse sacks are not used for clinical or soiled waste, which are stored in secure containers away from public areas. We hope to have re-organised this area and have a permanent solution by the end of November at the latest.

The Christmas and New Year period – Prescriptions and Opening Hours

As we fast approach Christmaswe would like to take the opportunity to remind you to think in advance about organising any repeat prescriptions you may require. Please consider that we need 2 working days’ notice to process a request. The surgery will be closed on the Bank Holidays the 26th and 27th December 2016 and the 2nd January 2017. We will be open on the 28th, 29th and 30th December 2016.

If you require medical attention during the closing hours of the festive period please contact our out of hours service on 03000 240000. You may also access advice via the national 111 non-emergency service or dial 999 in a life threatening emergency.

The HUB

As a member of the Richmond GP Alliance (RGPA http://www.richmondgpalliance.co.uk/) we continue to offer our patients routine appointments at the HUB service, based at Essex House. This means that, capacity allowing, we can offer appointments between 8am and 8pm 7 days a week. Whilst this service has proved popular, it is currently only commissioned until the end of the financial year. We will keep you informed of its progress and development.

PPG participation

As always if you would like to get involved in the Patient Participation Group (PPG) then please get in touch with Annalisa Jarvis, our practice manager .
