FIRST AID TREATMENT POLICY

Policy Statement

CONSERVATION HALTON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROTECTION OF ALL EMPLOYEES BY ENSURING COMPLIANCE WITH WSIB REGULATION 1101 UNDER THE WROKPLACE SAFETY AND INSURANCE ACT

Application

This policy applies to all staff.

Requirements

1.The First Aid Station at each CH work location shall be located in an easily accessible location for any worker at all times. The location of the first aid station is identified by signage. Only one first aid station is required per location.

2.The First Aid Station shall be the responsibility of the First Aid trained worker who works in the immediate vicinity of the First Aid Station.

A qualified first aid worker is defined in the Act as one whom:

a)is the holder of a valid St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid Certificate or its equivalent, and;

b)works in the immediate vicinity of the station. (A practicing R.N. is considered equivalent).

3.The First Aid station shall contain a first aid box containing the items required by WSIB Regulation 1101.

4.WSIB’s poster known as Form 82 must be posted in a noticeable place (generally on the Health & Safety Bulletin Board) and at the First Aid Station.

5.First aid Stations must be inspected at least quarterly. An inspection card will be located in or on each first aid box. The card will include spaces for recording the date of the most recent inspection and signature of the person inspecting the first aid box. (First Aid Kit Inspection Form)

6.The Joint Health & Safety Committee worker representative or designate is responsible to inspect the first aid box and the contents quarterly, documenting results and ordering additional supplies, as necessary.

7.A First Aid Kit Treatment Record is to be included in each First Aid Kit. All supplies used on an injured worker must be documented on this Treatment record Form by the worker or the First Aider.

This policy describes the requirements and procedures of providing first aid treatment to injured workers.
