JOB TITLE: Instrumental Teacher - Woodwind Intern

Job Purpose

·  To teach woodwind to groups of children and young people, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning and the well-being of the students.

·  To take part fully in all aspects of training and complete all tasks set as part of the internship by agreed deadlines.

·  To promote the learning of woodwind across the county, assisting with the creation and development (in conjunction with Head of Woodwind/SMT) an innovative woodwind programme, successfully recruiting new players and developing opportunities for progression.

Accountabilities

1 Develop and maintain an inspiring violin Scheme of Work in line with the Berkshire Maestros’ agreed planning framework.

2 Teach groups of children and young people, ensuring the lessons are enjoyable and that learning is effective, well planned and that pupils make good progress.

3 Assess pupils’ progress, giving individual feedback to pupils and their parents as to how to progress further.

4 Enter and adequately prepare pupils for examinations as and when appropriate in liaison with Head of Woodwind.

5 Select and audition pupils for tuition where required.

6 Promote and ensure good behaviour among pupils and safeguard their health and welfare

7 Encourage and promote pupil involvement in appropriate music ensembles.

8 Research up-to-date pedagogy, repertoire and resources for the violin ensuring that personal portable instrument(s) and relevant supplies are fully maintained for demonstration and modelling purposes *

9 Liaise with head teachers, music subject leaders, other school staff and hub partners/stakeholders as required in consultation with Head of Woodwind /SMT

10 Be a proactive and effective learner, participating in arrangements for all training and professional development and sharing expertise with colleagues.

11 Maintain accurate records at all times, communicating* with Head of Woodwind, colleagues and central administration in line with the terms and conditions as set out in the staff handbook. *especially changes in group membership and/or instrument deployment within 5 days of the change

12 Other duties and responsibilities commensurate with their grade as may from time to time be required by the CEO

Note: contracted staff must be available for work 39 weeks each year (1265 hours or pro-rata). In 2014-15 33 lessons must be delivered. Any/all holidays must be taken out side of the annual Maestros’ term dates and within school holiday periods. 5 days annually will be allocated to CPD. 10% of available time will be available for planning, preparation and assessment (PPA) and a further 10% non-contact time will be spent on induction, training, development and proactive development of the role.
