Mind of My Own (MOMO)

Practice Standards

MOMO has been live in Torbay since 8th June 2016. MOMO is an app which is specially designed for children and young people aged 8 to 21, which can be used to give their views to their social worker, CCW, IRO or other worker. They can use MOMO to prepare for a meeting, make a complaint, change something, prepare for a visit from their worker or to prepare for independence.

These standards are in place in order to clarify expectations of workers who are using MOMO with children and young people, those who are in receipt of MOMO statements and the Business Support officers who monitor the MOMO inbox.

These standards are supported by the legal and regulatory framework outlined below:

Practice Standard 1: Assigning MOMO statements

STANDARD / PERSON RESPONSIBLE / TIMESCALE
1.1 / Upon receipt of a MOMO statement this is assigned to the relevant member of staff (recipient)using the Service MOMO dash board / SARS Business Support / Within 24 hours
1.2 / Any MOMO statements addressed to the ‘complaints officer’ should be assigned to the corporate complaints inbox / SARS Business Support / Within 24 hours
1.3 / Any MOMO statements from children who do not have an allocated worker are assigned to the Head of Service for Safeguarding and Quality Assurance / SARS Business Support / Within 24 hours

Practice Standard 2: Receiving MOMO statements

STANDARD / PERSON RESPONSIBLE / TIMESCALE
2.1 / Upon receipt of an email from MOMO the statement should be downloaded and saved in a PARIS communication case note. MOMO statements can also be added to the documents section of an assessment or other document on PARIS / Recipient (Social Worker, CCW, IRO etc) / Within 24 hours
2.2 / When a MOMO statement is opened by the recipient they should also let the child know that they have received it and respond appropriately / Recipient (Social Worker, CCW, IRO etc) / Within 24 hours
2.3 / If the MOMO statement has not been opened within 72 hours (3 working days) the statement will be reassigned to the person’s line manager / SARS Business Support / 72 hours (3 working days)

Practice Standard 3: Looked after children (CLA)

STANDARD / PERSON RESPONSIBLE / TIMESCALE
3.1 / All looked after children receive information about MOMO at the point they become looked after / Social Worker / Within one week of becoming looked after
Prior to the CLA review
3.2 / Information about MOMO (Preparing for CLA review) is sent to the child and family together with their consultation paperwork / SARS Business Support / At least 10 working days prior to the review
3.3 / The IRO must speak with the child/young person in private prior to the first review and before every subsequent review (SQAS Practice Standard 2.7, LAC reviews) and should discuss MOMO as part of this / IRO / At least 5 working days prior to the review
3.4 / The allocated worker must also give the child the option of completing the Preparing for CLA review statement prior to the CLA review. / Allocated worker / At least 5 working days prior to the review
During the CLA review
3.5 / A copy of the child or young person’s ‘preparing for CLA review’ MOMO statement should be available at the meeting / Recipient e.g. IRO, CCW, Social Worker, Advocate
3.6 / At the CLA review the IRO is responsible for asking whether the child has been introduced to MOMO and recording this in the minutes of the meeting and in part 2 of the PARIS review form / IRO
3.7 / If the child has not been given information before their CLA review the child’s IRO will ask the allocated Social Worker to ensure that this happens during the next statutory visit / IRO

Practice Standard 4: Other children (SAT, CIN, CP, Early Help etc)

STANDARD / PERSON RESPONSIBLE / TIMESCALE
4.1 / MOMO should be introduced to children and young people at the beginning of a period of intervention, this should be recorded in the case notes
The allocated worker should use their discretion about whether this is appropriate, if MOMO is not introduced the rationale for this should be clearly recorded in case notes / Allocated worker / Within one week of the case being allocated
4.2 / Where cases transfer from team to team, at the point of transfer the receiving allocated worker should check if MOMO has been introduced to the child/young person / Allocated Manager / At point of case transfer
Prior to the ICPC
4.3 / Information about MOMO is sent to children aged 8 and above with their notification of the meeting / SARS Business Support / Within 3 working days of ICPC request
