From Milnrow stating a declaration of interest in the Lancashire League.

Various letters to & from Shaw re the position of their overseas amateur Jameel Stuart.

To & from Middleton re the position of their intended overseas amateur Harry Nicholls.

To Bolton League and Bob Hinchliffe apologising for the leagues’ failure to fulfill the U18s game with the Bolton League.

To Crompton thanking them for the excellent arrangements with regard to the Seniors league team for the game against the Liverpool Competition.

6. Secretary’s report. I attended the LCB Recreational Cricket Committee meeting at Old Trafford on May 22nd and was critical of Bobby Denning and the LCB Committee with the handling of league matters in respect of clubs leaving to join the Lancashire League. Since then there has been some developments with some signs of some support coming from that committee. The league senior representative team lost by 5 wickets to the Liverpool Competition last Sunday, but it was disappointing that several players originally selected withdrew from the team including four from one club. However Crompton are to be congratulated on their excellent presentation of the match and the Liverpool Competition people were overwhelmed by the hospitality, particularly the catering.

7. Treasurers report Assets £ 2462 . Invoices to clubs for LCB fees and League handbooks will boost that sum when paid and as we have not claimed any sponsorship money from JW. Lees.

Paid out over £2,000 to Taylor and Clifton for the league handbooks , and Mr. Paul Tatton has been paid for his work on the various grounds.

8. Sub Committee reports

(a) Discipline. The Disciplinary Chairman (john Patterson)reported that two bans had been issued. Matt Hodson (Werneth) 2 weeks and Majid Khan (Oldham) 4 weeks plus a fine of £50. He thanked both clubs for their co-operation and approval of the bans.

(b) PlayersThe players group chairman (Andy Young) said he was disappointed with the reaction from some players towards their selection for the leagues’ senior representative team. Only eight from an original selection list of eighteen had made themselves available. He did thank all the clubs who had supplied players for the game which was lost by 5 wickets. There is another game on July 9th away to the Ribblesdale League when we have the chance to make amends. The league chairman echoed these thoughts.

(c) Grounds No report.

9. Junior Chairmans report. Jim Bradbury said he had been badly let down by the team Manager for the U18 league team Scott Kershaw in respect of the league match with the Bolton League which we had to cancel at short notice on Saturday morning. He had ignored all messages until Friday lunch time then said it was too late so there was no alternative but to reluctantly inform the Bolton League on Saturday morning that we could not raise a team.

A league representative team at U12 level played and lost in a friendly against the Bradford League and there is another game arranged at Honley to play the Huddersfield League.

An U14s game scheduled for Sunday 18th June clashes with the league programme .

The club U13s teams are now in the Performance league and clubs at U18 level will do so shortly.

He provided a list of teams currently unbeaten this season.

The league chairman wanted to know when a replacement is found to be team manager at U18 level and re iterated that we have offered to play the Bolton League in a friendly fixture when it can be arranged.

As regards 2018 he said that we were looking to keep the Pennine Junior league going and that Neil Holt (Saddleworth) was going to report this meeting but he has had to work nights.

10 Umpires Secretary report. There is a problem on Sunday 18th June with 15 vacancies for umpires on that date. He has e mailed all umpires asking for volunteers from those who do not normally officiate on Sundays. It is likely that unless some more do come forward that some 2nd XI games will not have any umpires. Eric Roberts then provided a list of fines for clubs not sending in captains report forms which he reminded the meeting carried a £10 fine per offence, per team. The fines totalled £540 with £140 being the largest item forHeyside C.C. Captains report forms are not required for either T 20 or 3rd XL matches.

A question was raised about whether a stand in umpire could only do strikers end during a match. The answer being if captains agree and he is known to be a competent person he can officiate as normal.

11. Wood /Burton/Tanner /Moore cups. Following the recent draw it had resulted in a clash of some fixtures with some clubs having both 1st & 2nd XIs drawn at home. On the same day. It had been decided in these cases that clubs in the Burton Cup drawn at home where it clashed with the 1st team in the Wood Cup that they would play their matches on June 10th , the day of the Tanner & Moore Cups. It was known that this is not a universally popular decision but it was thought that it was better than having clubs conceding ground advantage . E mails had been sent to all clubs involved , also clarifying the situation with regard to eligibility of players for this round. The Burton Cup has been further complicated because it had been discovered by Glodwick who had been defeated by Littleborough in the previous round that Littleborough had played four ineligible players. After investigation by the league ,Littleborough had been eliminated and replaced by Glodwick who now play at home to Rochdale. Meanwhile Littleborough take Glodwicks place in the Moore cup and play at home to Hollinwood. . Oldham had also conceded a game to Walsden that had been abandoned part way through.

The Moorside representative raised a question about results concerning games n which the Shaw overseas amateur had played. Alan Campbell (Shaw) read out a prepared statement from Shaw which said they had played Jameel Stuart due to conflicting advice received . Following correspondence with the Home office, they are no longer selecting him. The chairman confirmed that no action would be taken against Shaw’s results due to the fact that they had not broken any league rules in registering the player.

12. Pennine League 2018 Steering Group. A sub meeting had been arranged to follow this main meeting with all interested clubs, but particularly those who had stated their intent to remain in 2018. Meanwhile the league chairman read out a short statement concerning brief details of information from the LCB.

13. League Dinner Do we want to cancel this in view of league circumstances. We do not want to have a room full of empty tables,. We have paid a £150 deposit which we will lose.

Referred back to clubs for a decision at the July meeting.

14. Any other business. Distribution of cricket balls 2nd delivery received from Readers.

15. Date of next meeting. Tuesday July 4th at Crompton C.C.
