UNIT TITLE / Apply advanced wallpaper techniques
APPLICATION / This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledgerequired to apply wallpaper and specialty materials to walls and ceilings to form a protective and decorative finish.
It includes planning and preparing for the task, preparing the surfaces and materials, applying the wallpaper and specialty materials, and completing clean-up activities.
This unit supports those who apply advanced wallpaper techniquesin residential and commercial settings, working individually oras a member of a team.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE
A person who demonstrates competency in this unit must apply, to specification:
  • anaglypta wallpaper to a surfaceof at least 6 square metres
  • another speciality wallpaper to a surfaceof at least 6 square metres containing power points, vents and switches.
In doing this, they must:
•comply with legislative and organisational requirements for WHS and environmental protection
•safely and effectively operate and use tools and equipment
•communicate and work effectively and safely with others
•prepare an application plan, prepare surfaces and adhesives, apply wallpapers in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations, and clean up
KNOWLEDGE EVIDENCE
To be competent in this unit, a person must demonstrateknowledge of:

ASSESSMENT CONDITIONS
Assessors must satisfy the requirements for assessors contained in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations.
Assessment of performance must be undertaken in the workplace or in a simulated workplace environment. Tasks are to be performed to the level of proficiency and within the timelimits that would be expected in a workplace.
Assessors are responsible for ensuring that the person demonstrating competency has access to:
  • spoken, written or graphical task instructions
  • coating materials
  • manufacturers’ specifications and safety data sheets (SDS) for coating materials
  • timber and structural steel substrates for coating
  • tools and equipment
  • personal protective equipment (PPE).
