Give what you can to help children in the Philippines

Toonie Thursday – Nov. 21

On Friday, Nov. 8, one of the most powerful typhoons ever recorded ploughed through the Philippines. Typhoon Haiyan ripped through the country flattening homes, devastating families and claiming lives. The storm has torn apart the lives of an estimated four million children, and more than 600,000 people have been displaced from their homes. We need to reach them urgently with medical supplies, therapeutic food, water and hygiene kits.

A child stands little chance in this kind of storm

Those who have survived the worst of the disaster may be traumatized and now face new dangers including the risk of disease from contaminated water. Every moment matters for these children. Your donation will help to provide clean water, protection and emergency supplies for the families affected. A donation of:

  • $20 can purchase 2,857 water purification tablets that can mean the difference between a child’s survival and mortality in times of emergency
  • $64 will purchase an emergency health pack that is designed for rapid life saving intervention
  • $217 can purchase a ‘school-in-a-box’ kit—a gift designed to transform a tent or the shade of a tree into a school

We can make a difference in the lives of children and their families

The Peel board has set Nov. 21 as Toonie Thursday to send urgent support to respond to the needs of all families and children affected in the Philippines. Your personal donation will be matched in full by the Government of Canada.

Helping out is easy

This is a completely voluntary campaign and any contributions are welcome. Whether you send a loonie, toonie or cheque made out to your child’s school, your contribution will make a difference.

Donations of $25 or more will automatically receive a tax receipt from Unicef. Simply complete the pledge form copied on the back of this flyer and Unicef will send a tax receipt to you directly.

Thank you for lending a helping hand to those who need it most.
