Declare Your Independence: A Revolutionary Project
You will form a partnershipwith a like-minded individual in order to create a country that will reflect you, your beliefs, your ideals, and your leadership qualities.
ONE group member is responsible for the final product of each of the following parts:
I. Declaration of Independence
-You must write a briefDeclaration of Independence. You should model this after the beginning of the United States’ Declaration of Independence (ie: list the reasons why you are beginning your country, what you hope to achieve/goals, why people should agree that your country should be declared/started, why they should move to your country, etc…)Be sure to name your country in your declaration. Length:1 – 1 ½ pages typed, double-spaced, titled Declaration of Independence
II. Persuasive Speech Presentation
-You will be campaigning to get people to move to your country and be your citizens. To this end, you will have to present a persuasive speech convincing your fellow classmates why your country is the best, and why they should move there (ie: the types of laws, citizen rights, etc.). Remember it should be class appropriate and use different persuasive techniques to ensure everyone is convinced you have the best country. At the end of all presentations there will be a vote, and the country that wins the most votes will get a prize. Persuasive speech length: 1 – 1 ½ pages, typed, double spaced
ALL group members are equally responsible for the completion of the following:
III. Create a Flag
-The flag is your symbol to all others for what represents you and your country. Choose your colors, shapes, and patterns wisely. Your flag must be regulation size, or larger: at least ½ a poster. In your presentation, be able to explain why the colors and shapes are significant for your country.
IV. Visual
-During your persuasive presentation, you should have an additional visual (besides your flag) to help persuade the audience that your country is the best. This can take many forms, for example: a commercial about your country, a power point that corresponds to your speech, a poster or pamphlet/brochure with information about your country.
V. Extras (Optional: choose only ONE)
-For bonus points, you can do any of the following:
-Create a National Anthem; lyrics included
-Use an already published song as your National Anthem (must be class appropriate); lyrics included
-Create a music video to go along with your national anthem
-Create a model of your country/capitol city
-Create a quiz to establish who would make the best citizen/citizen eligibility test
