JOB DESCRIPTION
WORKSHOP SUPPORT WORKER
RESPONSIBLE TO:Team Leader
JOB PURPOSE:1. To be responsible for the provision of training and work experience opportunities and daily supervision for those attending the Workshop, who may have a range of social health or learning needs which, must be taken into account when assisting them fulfill their potential.
2. To work in accordance with the policies, practice, and procedures as laid down by the Board of Tyne HA in liaison with partner agencies.
MAIN DUTIES
1.To undertake repair,restoration,building of commissioned pieces and creating new items of stock within the Workshop.
2.To assess and allocate appropriate pieces of work to volunteers and trainees throughout the project.
3.To ensure that all trainees and volunteers are given a full induction and appropriate training whilst at the project.
4.To provide ongoing support for trainees on the workshop training programme ensuring that appropriate standards of safety are met.
5.To maintain records relating to trainees, including induction, training programme, progress, monitoring and all aspects of health and safety.
6.To take part in supervision and team meetings, as well as the planning for future work and activities within the Workshop.
7.To report to the Team Leader, any complaints arising from volunteers, trainees and customers.
8.To ensure that the workshop building, tools and equipment are maintained to a high, clean and safe standard.
9.To carry out regular health and safety inspections at the Workshop to include periodic checks of systems and equipment where required by regulation, maintaining clear and accurate records and arrange any remedial action to maintain required standards.
10.To ensure that all standards of quality and safety are met at all times.
11.Other duties pertinent to the efficient running of the workshop as directed by the Team Leader.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Hours of Work:25 per week
Annual Remuneration:£12,088
Annual Leave:26 days
All posts are subject to a six months probationary period.
This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
Supervision and direction will be provided by Team Leader.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
WORKSHOP SUPPORT WORKER
It is expected that the postholder will have an understanding of the issues faced by vulnerable adults. The successful candidate will be expected to work with the following groups; people with mental health problems, people with behavioural problems, people with disabilities including learning disabilities, offenders and those that have experienced alcohol or substance dependency.
The successful candidate will also be expected to demonstrate the following qualities, skills and knowledge.
ESSENTIAL
- Level 3 or equivalent in Bench Joinery and/or Site Carpentry
- Recent joinery workshop experience
- An ability to demonstrate a full range of practical skills in carpentry and joinery
- A working knowledge of health and safety in the workplace
- A good communicator, flexible and well motivated
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good organisational skills
- An understanding of confidentiality and the ability to deal with information of a highly personal and sensitive nature
- Ability to use initiative in prioritising and completing tasks
- Full commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory workingpractices
DESIRABLE
- Teaching/support experience in woodworking
- Working with adults who may have low levels of education and training
- An understanding of Safeguarding Adults within the workplace
- Ability to use supervision and support of Line Manager and colleagues effectively
