How does the DHA Program work?
The Office of Recruitment and Retention (ORRP), receives projects from all over the BLM. These projects are the 11 week summer internships that you will apply for. You will apply to these internships through one of our partner organizations.
We have 8 partnerorganizations:
Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities(HACU),American Conservation Experience(ACE),Southern Utah University / Intergovernmental Internship Cooperative(SUU/IIC),Geological Society of America(GSA),Environment For The Americas (EFTA), INROADS, Minorities in Agriculture and Natural Resources (MANRRS), Greening Youth Foundation (GYF).
What does this mean to Partner Organizations?
Once participants complete the 11 week internship, and their educational requirement (graduate college), they will receive a DHA Appointment.
The Office of Recruitment Retention Programs (ORRP) is looking for each Partner Organization (PO) to post the project/internship on your website as a vacancy so potential candidates can apply. This way we will receive multiple candidates pervacancy and Project Coordinators (PC) may interview and select the most qualified applicants.
Each partner organization may not have potential candidates for every project. Once your organization receives the projects, post all the projects to your website so applicants may apply to the internship. PO’s will have 4 weeks to match the students to the projects and send resumes to the DHA Coordinator (Ian Herron- ) for review. The projects will detail the occupational series, location and detailed deliverables of the internship.
Each internship must be at least continuous 11 weeks. If the field project coordinator needs to extend the internship, they will notify ORRP. If additional time is needed to complete the project/internship (over the 11 weeks), there can be an extension. There will be a due date of July 21, 2017.
Partner Organizations may also leverage BLM’s community and national partners- i.e. Universities and conservation organizations who serve underrepresented communities. This may include colleges/universities, affinity groups associated with the BLM.
