Elastollan®TPU makes wearable devicescomfortable, lasting and fun for children

High performance TPUElastollan®used in PaiBand wearable deviceprovides excellent haptic experience and durability

Putao Technology collaborates with BASFin material selection and optimizationfor PaiBand

Shanghai, China–November18, 2016 –BASF’s thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) Elastollan® is now used in the PaiBand, a wearable deviceproduced by Putao Technology for children. BASF and Putao Technology selected Elastollan as the material for the wrist strap because of its excellent functionality, high design flexibility of appearance and color, as well as thepotential for haptic optimization.

“The PaiBand is a great example of how our innovative materials, backed by technical and design competences, can improve thecomfort and performance of sports and leisure products,”said Manfred Pawlowski, Vice President, Consumer, Performance Materials Asia Pacific, BASF.

Functionally, Elastollan offers comfort and durability. Thanks to its lightweight and flexibility, Elastollan makes the strap comfortable to wear. The haptic properties of the aliphatic Elastollan grade were optimized to improve the product’s sensorial appeal and user experience.

“We felt the haptics of the PaiBand werea key consideration for product likeability and ultimately, market success. We were looking for a material for the strap which is soft, smooth and comfortable. By working with BASF, we were not only able to select the right material for the wearabledevice, but also have the haptics enhancedto become the product’s unique selling feature,” said Gao Ziwei, CMF Designer of PaiBand, Putao Technology.

Owing to its combination of mechanical properties such as microbial, water, abrasion, stain, and UV resistance, Elastollan is long-lasting and offers increased elastic memory and hydrolytic stability, which presents significant benefits for users of wearable devices. As designis increasingly seenas a visual carrier of quality, shaping the look, feel, and perceived value of products,Elastollan furtheropens up design possibilities as it is anti-yellowing, possesses excellent color stability, and is easy to dye and print on.The aliphatic Elastollan grade for wearable devices is also certified ISO10993-10. As such, it does not cause skin irritation and sensitivity.

In addition to Elastollan,BASF offersother innovative solutionsfor the wearable device market, based on advanced, high performance materials. This includesengineering plastics and polyurethanes, which are enablers for good product design and innovation, due to their outstanding mechanical properties. Backed by its innovation centers and simulation and testing facilities, BASF helps its customers develop, optimize and commercialize products faster.

The PaiBand is commercially available and can be purchased at
