Scottish Chambers of Commerce are working with Skills Development Scotland to support the roll-out of the new Certificate of Work Readiness. This is a new qualification for young people which demonstrates that they are ready for the world of work, and have some work experience to prove it!

This work experience element of the Certificate means that we are looking for employers who are ready to do their bit by offering to host a young person on a work placement. Because it’s important that the Certificate really proves that a young person can last the pace and make a contribution in a real workplace, the work placement is a substantial one lasting 190 hours – this works out at four days a week for 7 to eight weeks. This means that the employer gets a really good handle on the abilities and aptitudes of the young person on placement.

Can you host a work placement for a young person undertaking this new Work Readiness qualification?

You liaise with the training provider to get the best person for your workplace, and get support before and all the way through the placement to help you plan, manage and assess the placement, making sure that it works for your business as well as for the young person.

At this point, we are looking to build a bank of employers who could agree in principle to host a placement. The details will be worked out to suit you by the relevant SDS training provider.

If this is something that sounds right for your business, we’d be delighted to discuss it with you to make sure you have all the information you need. If you’d like to register right away, please just complete the form below and send it back to us.

I do hope that this is of interest to you.

Certificate of Work readiness placements comprise 190 hours – usually four days a week over ten to twelve weeks – in a work environment. Employers must provide adequate activity and supervision for placement participants, and must complete a short assessment of each placement participant’s performance, with the support of a relevant training provider.
I confirm that I am prepared to offer work placement(s) to Certificate of Work Readiness participants on these terms.
I agree that my details will be passed to Skills Development Scotland and thereafter to relevant training providers, who will contact me with details of potential participants.
I agree that Scottish Chambers of Commerce or Skills Development Scotland may contact me in the future for information regarding my experiences with the Certificate of Work Readiness.
