South Carolina’s Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA)

South Carolina’s

Kindergarten ReadinessAssessment (KRA)

Trainer of Trainer (TOT) Training

For Trainers new to the KRA

Description / / This fall the KRA will be administered to all 5-year-old kindergarten students in public schools during the first 45 days of the school year. The KRA is a developmentally appropriate instrument that measures a child’s school readiness across multiple domains. Understanding a child’s school readiness helps kindergarten teachers best meet the child’s needs, and it helps schools, families, communities, and policy makers know how best to support young children as they enter the K-12 environment.
On behalf of the South Carolina Department of Education, the Office of Assessment appreciates your dedication to the students in our public school system.
Staff from Johns Hopkins Center for Technology in Education(JHUCTE)will be conducting the 2018 KRA Springtraining. Johns Hopkins has experienced trainers who have been working with teachers in Ohio and Maryland for the last four years during the development of this assessment. The blended training model has been effective in these states and we believe you will benefit from this learning experience.Through a blend of online and face-to-face activities, this training will prepare trainers to train teachers to administer the KRA with fidelity, use the online system to collect data, and access the online professional development resources.
In this two-part training you will:
  • Learn how to administer the KRA
  • Demonstrate understanding of the KRA technology components
  • Explore the online professional development resources and sites
  • Gain knowledge about this year’s administration
  • Learn techniques for integrating the KRA into the daily instruction
  • Complete a simulation activity for scoring practice and inter-rater reliability
