6th Grade Global Studies

Mrs. Talukder- Room 303

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the 2015 – 2016 school year! It is my pleasure to be able to work with you this year. The sixth grade social studies curriculum is a geography-based course which introduces students to the physical and human geography of the world.

In order to create an interactive environment that is safe and supportive for all students, there are classroom standards that must be met daily. Please read and review the guidelines below and sign the attached contract stating that you are going to be an active participant in your education.

Classroom Standards & Expectations

·  In class, On time and READY to learn, every day!

·  Culture: Every person in this class is an ESSENTIAL part of the class. Through getting to know each other and respecting each other, we will build a classroom culture that will make you WANT to be in our room.

·  Absences Policy: AVOID ABSENCES. If you are absent, your guardian must call the office and inform us of the absence. Students are responsible for making up any missed homework, class work (including warm-ups), tests, quizzes, speeches, etc. See homework policy.

·  Late Assignments: For every day that an assignment is late, 10 percent is deducted from your total score. Projects cannot be submitted late. They are ONLY accepted the day they are due.

·  Assignments: If you miss 2 or more in-class or homework assignments, you will receive a phone call home informing your guardian of this.

·  Group Agreements: We will agree on what rules we want to hold ourselves to during the first week of the year. We will review these as needed and add/take away from them throughout the year.

·  Planners: Your planner is an important tool to organize yourself. You are required to have it at all times

Attentive listening, raising your hand, and appropriate language are required at all times.

If at any time a student chooses not to adhere to classroom standards and expectations the following consequences will apply:

1.  First time-Warning

2.  Second time- Focus card write up

3.  Third time-Contact parents

4.  Fourth time-Office referral( student will be sent to the office)
