1.  JOB OVERVIEW

To carry out fire-fighting and rescue duties and other duties associated with the safe operation of aircraft. To deal with domestic and special service incidents and to provide fire cover as required. To provide assistance on humanitarian grounds as required.

2.  PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Operational Efficiency

·  Maintains and ensures acceptable Health and Safety working practices at all times to ensure the safety of yourself, other employees and the general public.

·  Promotes safe working practices as per company statements and safe systems of work.

·  Maintains operational competency through participation in BOH maintenance of competency scheme, in order to comply with the requirements of CAP 699.

·  “Acts up” to the role of Crew Manager ( if enrolled on a Crew Manager diary ) as required as part of the development process

·  Obtains and maintains the necessary vehicle driving licences/permits.

·  Drives and operates all fire vehicles and associated equipment.

·  Renders first aid treatment as necessary. Mans the first aid room as required.

·  Renders assistance at non-flying accidents and incidents within and without the airport boundaries on humanitarian grounds as permitted by operations.

·  Provides fire cover for aircraft engine starts, and other special service requests

·  Carries out vehicle daily inspections as laid down in the airport fire service policy.

·  Maintains the cleanliness of all fire vehicles and equipment.

·  Maintains the cleanliness of the fire station and its environs.

·  Undertakes watch room duties and maintains the watch log.

·  Liaise with air traffic control to ensure that safe operations are maintained within the manoeuvring areas and movements areas.

·  Participates in drills and exercises both locally and those involving outside emergency services.

·  Checks the serviceability of airport hydrants, fire alarm systems and fire extinguishers and report their serviceability state as required.

·  Carries out serviceability checks of, and operates all equipment associated with, the aerodrome operations.

·  Gives instructions as required in respect of fire and other related subjects when qualified.

·  Undertakes any other duties of a similar responsibility level commensurate to the role as may be prescribed from time to time.

·  Undertakes extraneous duties commensurate to the role as described by the Fire Service Manager

·  Maintains fitness level as required under the BOH Well Fire Fighter Scheme.

·  Complies with RFFS policy, procedures and emergency procedures.

·  Acts to eliminate or reduce, risks associated with the RFFS function by communicating with the FSM.

·  Ensures operational requests are promptly and safely dealt with.

·  Ensures RFFS extraneous duties are conducted to the highest possible standards, thus safeguarding the aerodrome and operation.

Customer Satisfaction

·  Maintains an environment that reassures staff, passengers and customers that their safety and security are BOH primary concern.

·  Ensures that customer interaction is efficient and accurate to the needs of the service

·  Receives and responds to all external training requests in an informative and professional manner.

·  Ensures customer satisfaction in relation to service performance.

Departmental Management

For the RFFS functions:

·  Ensures effective communication with the FSM and training Manager regarding MOC and personal development.

·  Performs any other duties commensurate to the role as assigned by Fire Service Manager

Relationships

·  Works closely with fire station personnel and other airport staff

·  Day to day liaison with fire supervisory staff, other airport departments, and airport operating companies.

·  Internal and External customers.

·  Maintains daily contact with all key staff whose roles contribute to service delivery.

Education/Knowledge

Relevant Fire and Rescue operational qualifications /

Higher education

Experience
Essential
Airport RFFS experience or military and local authority fire service

Experience of working in a busy and highly regulated RFFS sector.
Technical/Professional Competencies
Essential
CAA Fire Fighter qualification
Proficient in the use of MS Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) /

Desirable

Evidence of ongoing development of RFFS skills (CAP 699 competency)

6. HEALTH AND SAFETY

Whilst at work the post holder will comply with his/her responsibilities conferred by Sections 7 and 8 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. The post holder will: -

·  Take reasonable care of the health and safety of him/herself and other persons who may be affected by his/her acts or omissions at work.

·  Co-operate with the Company management so far as is necessary in order that the Company can carry out its statutory duty under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all relevant statutory provisions.

·  Not intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare.

·  Ensure that all relevant Risk Assessment are suitable for the activities involved and are regularly reviewed.

·  In addition, the post holder will comply with the more specific requirements contained within ‘The Bournemouth Airport For Safety’ – Individual Responsibilities.
