ICT AND FORMAL LEARNING

The National Curriculum:

The general teaching requirements of the National Curriculum include the use of ICT across the curriculum. The programme of study for each subject flags up curriculum opportunities for the use of ICT.

The Standards Site:

This large website is run by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) to support work in raising educational standards by providing a National Strategy for both primary and secondary phases of education.

British Educational Communications and Technology Agency:

Becta is the Government's key partner in the strategic development and delivery of its ICT and e-learning strategy for schools and the learning and skills sector.

Becta also run a website at that offers ICT information and advice to teachers.

These websites give you access to useful information and links to other sites.

Teachers’ TV:

Includes a searchable archive of short video programmes (upto about 15 mins) on a range of topics including ICT use in both primary and secondary phases.

Parents Information Network:

PIN was established in 1994 and provides a wide range of guidance on computers and education for parents with children of toddler age through to 18.

Teach-ICT:

This website provides links to a range of useful information about ICT in education via the ICT Advice link from the home page.

National Grid for Learning:

The NGfL provides a network of links to educational resources.

TASK

make sure that you have logged on so that you can save documents or URLs as you work

Use the hard copy, CDs or web resources provided in class to investigate a chosen aspect of the use of ICT in either primary or secondary schools.

Spend about half an hour collecting information. Do not spend too much time ‘surfing’ for information; decide on a focus and follow it up as far as you can in the time available.

Share what you have found out with a partner

Continue to work using the resources and build up a short report of your findings
