CAREER FEST

Career Fest 2011, January 31-February 4, a week of events for USC students centered on topics related to work, success and values engaging the entire university community. Whether you are a freshman and have not decided your major, a sophomore/junior thinking about internships or a senior about to graduate we have an event for you! The week will include panels, discussions, workshops and networking events hosted by departments across the USC campus. Coming this Spring! On-Campus Recruiting begins January 31. The Career Fair will be held February 10. Internship Week will be held February 14-17. The spring Diversity Networking Mixer will be held on February 16.

CAREER CENTER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS

The Career Planning & Placement Center is offering two great summer internship programs for 2011: Dream Dollars and The Scheyer Family Scholarship.

The Dream Dollars Program is a unique “scholarship” program for undergraduates. The USC Dream Dollars Program provides stipends for USC students who receive internships with a non-profit or government organization. This program will support students hoping to gain work experience from an unpaid internship. Students will be selected through an application and interview process. All internships must be a minimum of six weeks during the summer. The program provides a stipend of $1,200 for each student. Students must have an internship prior to applying for this scholarship. The Scheyer Family Scholarship for Summer Interns, established in December of 2007, will provide an award of $2,500 to two students enrolled in approved summer internships. Preference will be given to sophomores, juniors or seniors with demonstrated financial need. Student recipients must have a major in the USC College of Letters, Arts & Sciences and must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Students must be in good academic standing and must have a graduation date between December 2011 and May 2014. Students must have an internship prior to applying for this scholarship. NEED COURSE CREDIT FOR AN UNPAID INTERNSHIP?

Federal labor law requires that students participating in an internship must either A) be paid by the employer; or, B) be enrolled in an internship for-credit course. Do you have an unpaid internship and need course credit? If so, register for one of USC’s 15 internship courses. §  SSA Global Ed – Singapore International Internships (Retail Operations Internship)

Partnering with many well-established multi-national companies in a wide range of industries, SSA Global Ed offers exciting internships that will grow and develop you to your highest potential. We are looking for motivated individuals who are interested in international careers and desire to be challenged and developed as young professionals. Our Singapore Internship Program 2010-11 is opened to students and recent graduates year-round. Interns will receive a monthly stipend, in addition to monetary bonuses for outstanding performance. The main purpose of the internship is to immerse the interns in all aspects of retail operations of the multi-million dollar business. Training takes place in any of the store locations in Singapore. Interns must work from bottom up, grasping all the essential knowledge and skills of retail sales, before being considered to move on to a management program. §  SSA Global Ed – Singapore International Internships (Banking Internship)

The Bank Internship offers highly motivated and successful individuals an opportunity to improve their skills while working in a diverse environment. The Internship Program is a valuable learning opportunity that spans typically a period of 6 months to 12 months. Banking interns will work for the largest banking group in Southeast Asia, in the Singapore office. Outstanding interns will be recommended for Management Associate Program or as Direct Hire upon graduation or completion of the internship. In addition to a demonstrated track record of achievements in academic and non-academic pursuits, the ideal candidate we seek should have outstanding overall qualities such as leadership potential, integrity, outstanding communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of people. Must have strong interest in banking/finance and knowledge of Asian languages (such as Mandarin Chinese) is strongly preferred. §  SSA Global Ed – Singapore International Internships (Apparel/Product Designer Internship)

SL Global is a global one-stop apparel provider headquartered in Singapore, which provides wide range of apparel products through its s large design center and manufacturing facilities. The company’s clients include Reebok, Banana Republic, Old Navy, GAP, Puma, Eddie Bauer, the Northface, and more. The company is looking for interns as well as experienced professionals to work for their Singapore office. Responsibilities include designing apparel for casual and sportswear collections and preparing costing for new designs and development items for buyers. Perform sourcing and merchandising duties as required. Requirements include apparel design experience, knowledge of fashion trends, strong computer skills (CS Illustrator and Photoshop), and abilities to work in a team and independently. §  SSA Global Ed – Singapore International Internships (Architect Internship)

Interns will work for a firm that provides professional service in architecture, city planning, urban design, civil and structural engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering and interior design. The scope of these services includes planning, design, supervision and administration of building contracts and construction management. Responsibilities include forming design concepts, working with overseas clients, and preparing marketing materials for client meetings. Seeking college graduates and professional for architect internships lasting 6 months to 1 year. Bilingual Chinese is a plus, with knowledge of Autocad, Photoshop, 3D Sketch Up. §  Nordstrom – 2011 Internship Program

Are you graduating in Winter 2011 or anytime in 2012 and looking for a career in fashion? The Nordstrom Internship may be your perfect fit! Nordstrom is looking for individuals with enthusiasm for retail, who are motivated achievers and hardworking team players. As an intern, you will receive mentoring and training in the exciting world of fashion—experiences you won’t find in the classroom. During the internship, you will have the opportunity to: learn from the experienced people who bring the Nordstrom experience to life, gain hands-on experience by selling and serving customers, participate in sales and customer service events, and gain exposure to a variety of management responsibilities. And—upon successful completion of the internship program—you’ll be offered an assistant manager or salesperson position, depending upon availability and your preferences. §  BANDAI – Summer Internship Program (Tokyo, Japan)

As one of the world's leading toy companies, Bandai is constantly searching for new ways to conceptualize, develop, and market products. We are currently seeking applicants for open positions in Product Development: game programmer and business producer. The game programmer position involves programming video games for a variety of platforms, mainly using the C++ computer language. The business producer position involves marketing, sales, coordination, and anything else related to making a video game profitable. Any students/recent graduates who are interested in working for either Bandai or NAMCO BANDAI Games must first participate in the summer immersion program at the respective company. Undergraduate students who are in their third or four year of college, graduate students who have no more than one year left of their graduate program, and recent graduates are eligible to apply for positions at either company. §  Red Varden Studios – Internship/Assistant Training Program

Red Varden Studios is a Los Angeles-based television and film production company that features programming across a variety of genres. Zig Gauthier formed Red Varden Studios in 2007, building upon his experience over the past decade on scripted comedies, dramas, MOWs and all forms of non-scripted programming for television. Red Varden Studios has year round part time internships available for those individuals interested in a career in film or television, potentially as a producer, studio executive, network executive, writer, director, agent, or other similar positions in entertainment. The internship program is a very intense, structured internship program only applicable for serious, professional individuals who are fully dedicated to a challenging career in entertainment. §  City of Philadelphia – Mayor’s Internship Program

The Mayor's Internship Program (MIP) is a ten-week unpaid internship beginning June 6, 2011 and ending August 12, 2011. Mayor's Interns work on projects and tasks providing research, administrative, and staff assistance to city managers. Interns are required to commit to 25 hours per week and to be available to work the duration of the internship program.Applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate-level students (recently graduated seniors may be considered). A background in one or more of the following areas is desired: law, business/management, communications, public policy, economics, finance, human resources, social services, or public administration. §  Annenberg Space for Photography – Intern

The Annenberg Space for Photography is a cultural destination dedicated to exhibiting both digital and print photography in an intimate environment. The Annenberg Space for Photography is seeking 2 students from the communities the Annenberg Foundation serves to contribute to its charitable endeavors. Interns will assist in the following tasks: provide organizational and administrative support to the Photography Space; assist Events and Hospitality Manager; and create a memorable guest and visitor experience by being a point of contact with visitors, including walk-in guests and school groups and programs. Candidates must be in their Junior or Senior year of college, and majoring in Fine Arts, Business Administration, Photography, Theater, and or similar course work. An over minimum GPA of 3.0 is required, and strong communication and written skills are highly desired. Applicants must be proficient in data-entry in a PC or Mac environment. FELLOWSHIPS

§  Yale School of Management Pre-MBA Leadership Program

The Yale School of Management Pre-MBA Leadership Program is a highly selective, two-week summer program aimed at college juniors and seniors and recent college graduates from populations typically under-represented in management education. We introduce you to the fundamentals of management education and give you the tools necessary to hone your individual leadership skills. The program takes place June 12-25, 2011 on the Yale School of Management Campus in New Haven, Connecticut. §  City of Chicago, Mayor’s Office Fellowship Program

The Office of the Mayor of the City of Chicago is in the process of recruiting graduate students for the 2011 Mayor’s Office Summer Fellowship Program. The Mayor's Office Fellowship Program is a wonderful opportunity for graduate students in any concentration who will be enrolled during the summer and are interested in local government and public policy. Fellows have the opportunity to learn about municipal government and participate in a unique, hands-on experience in the development of new policy and program initiatives. Candidates must be current students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or a minimum cumulative GPA of 4.0 on a 5.0 scale. Fellows are not classified as full-time employees. Residency in the City of Chicago is required prior to starting the fellowship program. Relocation is at the applicant’s expense. Fellows are paid at a rate of $20 per hour. International students must have an F-1 Student Visa and must be a full-time student. International students are required to have a social security number/card that states “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION.” Completed applications for participation in the summer session (June 13, 2011 through August 26, 2011) must be postmarked no later than FEBRUARY 11, 2011. Candidates must submit an application, which requires two writing samples and two letters of recommendation, as well as a resume, official transcript and letter of enrollment.
