Required documents

To be considered to the DDFC x FAD Dubai Fashion Showcase – Fashion Scout London SS18, designers must submit the following documents:

  • Application form filled and signed by applicant designer
  • Passport and UAE visa copy
  • PDF file (up to 4 mb file size) showcasing 6-12 looks of designer’s last four collections
  • PDF file (up to 4 mb file size) including designer’s brand and brand statement
  • Copy of Business License in the UAE
  • Proof of participation in at least 2 (two) previous fashion shows (e.g. photos, videos, catalog, look book, etc.)
  • Proof of DDFC membership

Eligibility criteria

To be considered for the DDFC x FAD Dubai Fashion Showcase – Fashion Scout London SS18, designer must comply to the below eligibility criteria:

  • Be a DDFC member
  • Have released a minimum of 4 (four) previous collections
  • Have participated in at least two previous fashion shows, including name of the event, year, as well as documental reference (e.g. photos, videos, catalog, look book, etc.)
  • Abide to all the Terms and Conditions of the present instrument
  • Only new collections will be accepted

Application and selection process

  1. Following the submission of applications, candidates will be shortlisted based on the above requested documents, and compliance with the above stated eligibility criteria.
  2. Shortlisted designers will be given a briefing session on DDFC premises on July 06th, 2017. During the briefing session, shortlisted designers will be given additional information about Fashion Scout London and the Judging Panel. Attendance in the briefing session is mandatory.Absent designers will be automatically disqualified.
  3. For the Judging Panel, designers are requested to present:
  4. Mood boards showcasing creative direction, including visual references detailing references, color palette, style and tone of the upcoming collection
  5. Sketches of the proposed looks (min. 16 – max. 20)
  6. Relevant samples detailing textures, fabrics, finishes, etc.
  7. Collection plan (Optional)
  8. Marketing strategy (Optional)

Attendance in the judging panel is mandatory.Absent designers will be automatically disqualified.

The above dates are fixed. It is the responsibility of the applicant designer to ensure his/her presence when necessary.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. DEFINITIONS

In these Terms and Conditions, the following words and expressions shall have the following meanings:

‘Designer’ shall mean the applicant designer that has been accepted for participation in the DDFC x FAD Dubai Fashion Showcase – Fashion Scout London SS18 competition by DDFC.

‘Authorities’ shall mean any federal, state or local government agency.

‘Competition’ shall mean the selection process to which designers apply to compete for the sponsored participation at DDFC x FAD Dubai Fashion Showcase – Fashion Scout London SS18, as set forth in this instrument ‘Terms and Conditions’.

  1. PARTICIPATION
  2. DDFC reserves the right to appoint any designer to participate in the DDFC x FAD Dubai Fashion Showcase – Fashion Scout London SS18, under the conditions set forth in this Terms & Conditions at its sole discretion.
  3. By submitting the application to participate in thecompetition, the Designer agrees to act in accordance to the clauses set forth in his agreement, without restrictions and/or reservations.
  4. Failing to comply with the clauses of this agreement will enforce the application of the penalties described under clause 10 Termination.
  5. APPLICATION & SELECTION PROCESS
  6. To be considered for the Competition, designers must comply to the following eligibility criteria:
  7. Designer must be a DDFC Member
  8. Designer must provide proof of its residency and/or company registration in the UAE
  9. Designer must provide all information and required documents as specified in the Application Form
  10. The selection process will be organized and managed by DDFC who, at its sole discretion and without any prior consent or approval from participant designers, will engage and invite industry experts to take part in different instances of the referred process. Designers must abide at all times to instructions provided by DDFC regarding application forms, required documents and submission dates
  11. SPONSORSHIP ENTITLEMENT

After the selection process, 1 (one) designer will be selected for a sponsored participation at DDFC x FAD Dubai Fashion Showcase – Fashion Scout London.The selected designer will be entitled to the following benefits:

4.1.Venue hire for catwalk show at Freemason’s Hall, London

4.2.Catwalk show at Fashion Scout London SS18

4.3.10 Models for up to20looks, including model casting. Model casting must be scheduled according to instructions provided in the Designer Handbook document attached to this Application Form

4.4.Hair and make-up, provided by Toni&Guy and Kryolan, respectively, under the conditions agreed with Fashion Scout London

4.5.Show production as specified in the Designers Handbook document attached to this Application Form

4.6.Light & Sound as specified in the Designers Handbook document attached to this Application Form

4.7.Photography ofcatwalk show. This includes 20 frontal-look pictures of designer’s garments presented during the show

4.8.Video of catwalk show. This includes 1 (one) final video edit file, as specified in the Designer Handbook attached to this Application Form

4.9.PR for the event including guest list management, electronic invitation and press coverage, as specified in the Designers Handbook attached to this Application Form

4.10.Lookbook studio photoshoot including 20 Shots on a plain black / white background with 1 (one) provided model, hair and makeup, to be shot in a 4-6 hour schedule

Additional requests regarding any of the above-mentioned allowances will incur in additional costs to be covered by Designer, as specified in the Designer Handbook document

  1. EXCLUSIONS

The following elements are not included under article 4. Sponsorship Entitlement:

5.1.Designer is solely responsible for any costs related to travel, accommodation and personal expenses such as food and drink, transportation, , including but not limited to booking and reservation of flight tickets and hotels, visa related costs, design and printing of personal guest invitation and commute between airport, hotels and show venue

5.2.Designer is solely responsible for any costs/fees related to the logistics arrangements for transporting materials – e.g. garments, accessories, shoes, etc. – to the show location in London, including but not limited to cargo fees and customs, government fees, currier companies, insurance and any other logistics cost

5.3.Designer will be responsible for the organization and financial bearings of any additional hiring and/or request not detailed under article 4 Sponsorship Entitlement, including but not limited to additional models, photography, videography, fitting, as well as any other products or services of any nature designer may require, in Dubai and/or in London

  1. FIRST PARTY OBLIGATION

By participating in the competition, designer hereby declares and agrees that:

6.1.All information about designer company/brand is true, and free from any claim by third-party, business partners, legal impediments and/or any other claim

6.2.Designer is solely responsible for its own collection and creative process, including concept, sourcing of necessary vendors and suppliers, production and implementation, as defined by current market best practices, and;

6.3.To manage and arrange any specific requirement not included under item 4. Sponsorship Entitlement of the present agreement, included but not limited to its own team, personal assistant, promotion, and media relations, and;

6.4.Designer declares that all materials, garments and any other component of what is defined as Designer’s collection to be presented during Fashion Scout London SS18 is original, and a result of its own creation and creative process, and in any way is subjected to any kind of legal and/or intellectual property dispute, in the UAE or abroad, and;

6.5.Designer understands and acknowledges Dubai Design and Fashion Council (DDFC) as a Dubai Government entity created to support the development and growth of a strong and sustainable design industry in Dubai, and takes on the responsibility to protect DDFC’s image and reputation at all times, and act and behave in a respectable manner at all times, and;

6.6.Designer understands and acknowledges that the initiative set forth by DDFC for the participation of UAE-based designers at London Fashion Scout AW 2017 is intended at international promotion, with no commitment of any nature regarding sales or any other commercial performance

  1. INSURANCE

The Designer shall at its own cost maintain general public liability insurance against claims for personal injury, death or property damage incident to, arising out of or in any way connected to the Designer’s participation in the Competition, for personal injury, death or property damage in any one occurrence. The Designer to indemnify and hold harmless DDFC from all liability (damage or accident) which might ensue from any cause resulting or connected with transportation, placing, removal or display of garments, accessories and any other element part of, and or used during Designer’s showcase. The Designer acknowledges that it is responsible for obtaining, for its protection and entirely at its expense, such property insurance for its exhibit and display materials as the First Party deems appropriate.

  1. PHOTOGRAPHY

The Designer acknowledges that DDFC may take photographs and video material during the Competition period, including at Fashion Scout London SS18 venue and facilities, and reproduce them in DDFC educational, news or promotional material, whether in print, electronic or other media, including the DDFC websites. DDFC reserves the right to crop, slice, treat and edit any imagery taken during the Competition. The Designer waives the right to inspect or approve the finished product, including written, printed or electronic copy. Additionally, all rights to royalties or other compensation arising or related to the use of the name, photograph or biography are waived by the Designer. All photographs and video materials become the property of DDFC. Such postings may be displayed, distributed or used by DDFC for any purpose.

  1. ADVERTISING AND PUBLICITY

The Designer’s promotional material and goods must be approved by DDFC. The Designer is not allowed to carry out publicity activities outside the approval of DDFC. DDFC reserves the right to cease any publicity/presentations that have not been approved and do not meet the standards of the Competition. In the event of complaints, DDFC reserves the right to suspend any formats or designs for the remainder of the Competition. The Designer shall remain liable for and shall indemnify and hold DDFC and its affiliates and their respective directors, officers, agents and employees, harmless from all loss, cost, claims, causes of action, suits, damages, liability, expenses and costs, including reasonable attorney’s fees, arising from or out of any violation or infringement (or claimed violation or infringement) by the Designer, its agents or employees of any patent, copyright, trademark or trade secret rights or privileges whether during the Competition or supplied to DDFC for inclusion in the website, catalogue or other online or printed DDFC related material.

  1. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PARTIES

Nothing set out in or done in accordance with the terms of this instrument Terms and Conditions shall be interpreted as creating joint and/or several liabilities, a principal and agent relationship or an employer and employee relationship between the Parties or make this instrument a joint venture.

  1. CONFIDENTIALITY

The Designer must use best efforts to establish and maintain all necessary security measures to maintain the confidential nature of the confidential information, in no event less than the same degree of care that the Designer uses to protect its own confidential and proprietary information of similar importance to safeguard Confidential Information from access or use that is not authorized under this instrument Terms and Conditions. The Designers agree that during the term of this instrument Terms and Conditions, and for a period of five (5) years following its termination for any reason.Designer shall not directly or indirectly divulge, make use, or permit its officers, employees, agents or advisers to use or disclose any Information relating to this instrument other than those expressly consented by DDFC or pursuant to a Legal Requirement or is required to do so by law.

  1. TERMINATION

In event of failure by the Designer to observe or perform any of the provisions established in this Terms and Conditions, DDFC shall have the right to terminate Designer participation in the competition forthwith by notice in writing to the Designer. In such event all designs, materials and information provided by Designer will be immediately removed from DDFC and its Partners premises, venues and digital channels, and thereafter the Designer shall not be entitled to access the Competition, nor it will be entitled to the benefits described under article 4. Sponsorship Entitlement.

DDFC shall have the right at all times to abandon, cancel or suspend the Competition in whole or in part in the event that there is likely to be insufficient Designer’s participation in and support for the Competition. In such circumstances, the decision of DDFC shall be final.

  1. MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS

Compliance with Law

The Designershall comply with, observe and perform the rules, regulations, statutes and ordinances related to the initiatives activities, including, without limitation, health and safety standards, employment regulations and quality standards.

Amendments

No modification, amendments or other variation to this Terms and Conditions shall be binding on any Party unless agreed in writing by both Parties.

Severability

The illegality or invalidity of any part of this Agreement shall not prejudice the enforceability of any other part, which shall be severable there from.

Waiver

The failure on the part of either Party to exercise or enforce any right conferred upon it by this Contract shall not be deemed to be a waiver of any such right or operate so as to bar the exercise or enforcement thereof at any time or times thereafter.

Force Majeure

Neither Party to this Contract shall be considered to be in default or in breach of its obligations under this Contract to the extent that performance of such obligations is prevented by any Event of Force Majeure which arises after the date of this Contract. If either Party considers that an Event of Force Majeure has occurred which affects its performance under this Contract, it must immediately notify the other Party as soon as possible. Such notice must include full and detailed particulars of such circumstances and effect.

Disputes and governing law

This Contract shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Emirate of Dubai and the applicable federal laws of the United Arab Emirates. If a Party considers that a dispute has arisen it shall give notice to the other Party setting forth the details of the dispute and requesting that appropriate members of the parties meet in an attempt to resolve the dispute. If the Parties have not resolved the dispute in accordance with the applicable provisions of this Contract, then any Party may refer the dispute to the Dubai Ruler's Court in accordance with the applicable laws in the UAE.

  1. FURTHER CONDITIONS

In any cases not covered by the above Terms and Conditions, DDFC shall, acting reasonably, have the absolute right to make further Terms and Conditions appropriate to the circumstances.
