DOUBLEBAY Men’s BowlingClub stalwart,Sam (Shmuel)Abrahams, has beenawardedMaccabi NSW Lawn Bowls Guild’s prestigious Bernie Garden Award.
The award is presented in
recognitionofamember’s
“utmost”serviceto theguild. Abrahamswasnamedthe
2012recipient attheguild’s recent42ndannualgeneral meeting at the Double Bay Clubforhislong-timeservice
totheMaccabilawnbowlsorganisation.HehasbeenaMaccabiBowlsGuild membercloseto 30yearsandservedthreetermsasitspresident.
Onlytwicein recentyearshashenotbeentheguild’ssecretary.Hehasalso beenteammanageroftheNSWMaccabiteamwhichwona silvermedalat the
1991-92AustralianMaccabiLawnBowls Carnival.
Abrahamswasre-electedunopposed astheguild’ssecretaryatthemeetingat whichall,buttwooftheMaccabi NSWLawnBowlsGuild’sexecutive and committeearemembersofDoubleBay BowlingClub.
ThetwoareLindfieldBowling Club’sRodSilber,whoisoneoftwovice- presidentsandDafnaOrbach (NorthSydney), whoisamemberofthe committee. TheotherDoubleBaymemberselected attheannualmeeting are LouisPlatus(president), HarryStein(vice-president),TerenceJoffe(secretary), BernieGarden(bowlssecretary),John Wineberg (Publicity);BarrieBrickman, SamGinges,SidGlickandPhilipJoel(committee).
In2009,anotherDoubleBaymember,Harry Stein,wasawardedtheBernie GardenTrophyforhislongserviceontheexecutivecommittee,including a numberofyearsasthe president.
