Job Description
Program Facilitator – Part Time
Position: Program Facilitator
Hours: Part time (up to 20 hours per week). Monday-Friday (hours may vary)
Reports to: Program Director
Supervises: Some volunteers/interns

SUMMARY
Further the mission of HOPE under the direction of the Program Director and with a team of other staff and volunteers, by working hands-on with HOPE Members to help develop, implement and facilitate programs that interest people with a wide range of physical and mental abilities and limitations, especially those with developmental disabilities. For example, classes and activities that cover topics such as daily living skills, nutrition, sports and exercise, hygiene, money skills, social skills, math, science, language arts, volunteering in the community, gardening, special programs and so on. Establish partnerships within the community to share in the responsibility of creating empowering programs for adults with disabilities. Connect people with disabilities to the community in a variety of ways.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in a social field
· Experience working in a team setting
· Experience working with the disability population
· CPR and First Aid Certification
· Chauffer’s License and CDL
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
· Be legally able to work in the United States.
· Pass a background check.
· Pass a drug test should one be administered.
· Good verbal and written English communication skills, comprehension, reading, writing, speaking, evaluating, basic mathematics, organizing and innovation.
· Valid Driver’s License with good driving record, own vehicle that can be used to transport HOPE Members. Must be willing to allow HOPE to subscribe you to Motor Vehicle Record reporting system.
· Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer, or school history) through letters of recommendation or other method. High moral standards.
· Work professionally, efficiently, and organized as a team player and also able to work independently.
· Attention to detail is a must.
· Creative and able to adapt quickly to change.
· Maintain all required certifications such as First Aid & CPR.
· Respond to HOPE member issues such as personal care needs, behavior problems, or someone in crisis with medical issues such as seizures or falls.
· Independently supervise people with disabilities one-on-one or in groups on a daily basis, encouraging and modeling positive, appropriate behavior.
· Complete tasks that are beyond HOPE Member’s abilities.
· Must be able to be counted as a staff person for HOPE’s building-coverage policy. A certain staff-to-member ratio must be present at all times to maintain safety and accountability. All paid positions (even non-program positions) are required to respond to certain member issues and emergencies when necessary.
· Occasionally assist with non-program special events such as fundraisers.
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens.
· Possible exposure to profanity, violent, and/or offensive behavior from people with disabilities.
· High stress and multi-task situations.
· May be exposed to long and/or irregular hours.
· Work in a hot and/or cold working environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
General Functions
· Administrative duties such as computers (e.g., word processing, database, spreadsheet, powerpoint, publisher, internet, etc) , filing, scheduling, and tracking data.
Physical Functions
· Offer physical support to people with disabilities such as assistance walking or transporting themselves.
· Participate in physical activities with people with disabilities (e.g., sports).
· Frequent reaching/stooping/bending/kneeling/ crouching.
· Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day with frequent prolonged standing/walking/ talking.
· Must be able to see, hear, and move intermittently.
· Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
· Must be able to lift heavy objects frequently.
General Program Functions. The Program Facilitator assists the Program Director with the following:
· Prepare, lead and facilitate HOPE programs (educational and recreational) and special events for people with disabilities that connects them to the community in a variety of ways.
· Develop and maintain high-quality programs.
· Work cooperatively with other staff on special projects and activities as needed.
· Provide advocacy, supervision, leadership and/or mentoring to HOPE Members.
· Plan, organize, and facilitate special events including serving as the Emcee (public speaking).
· Prepare and give public presentations, trainings, and workshops to the community.
· Assist with implementing Member Centered Plans for each HOPE member.
· Manage some program interns and volunteers. Create appropriate opportunities for interns who must meet school requirements, attend related meetings at Universities and with professors, fill out related paperwork, recruit interns, coordinate schedules, evaluate job performance, and more.
· Assist with management membership paperwork (review, edit, sort/organize) including paperwork and communications with homes.
· Handle and process all money according to polices.
· Network and partner with other organizations to create programs and opportunities for HOPE.
· Help market HOPE to the community including Facebook updates and writing press releases.
· Create and maintain organizational systems to organize things such as curriculum and program materials, program documentation, contact lists, electronic picture management, sound system, etc.
· Give and create opportunities for HOPE Members to be involved at every level of daily programming/operations as appropriate. A big emphasis is for HOPE Members to lead and participate to the greatest extent possible. Therefore, program staff plays a supportive role whenever appropriate and possible.
· Drive HOPE Members to/from functions, activities and programs, as needed, including using your own vehicle or a large transport vehicle provided by HOPE. You may be required to get a CDL.
· Assist with HOPE Member medications as needed.
· Help recruit and retain volunteers.
· Lead and/or assist with HOPE Member arrivals/departures
· All other duties as assigned.
