T-BALL/BASEBALL LEAGUES NOW FORMING!

This year we have more teams, smaller teams (more playing time per person) and two fields. Start your kidsyoung in this Great American Pastime! Eight weeks of summer fun! Children will be taught fundamentalsthe first two weeks followed by six weeks of games. Games will be instructional in nature from the coaches(parents). A baseball glove will be required. Bats, balls and helmets will be provided. Team assignmentsand game schedules will be sent out prior to start date. Shirts will be distributed first week of class. The4 - 6 year old children will play at alternating times of 4:30, 5:35 or 6:35 p.m. at Converse Park and the 7years and up alternating times 4:45, 5:50 or 6:55 at Village Hall. We will try to keep to these times but if enrollment is large in one age group, times may vary. Due to the large participation in this program, we will try to be as accommodating as possible, but once teams are set we will not be trading players (no free agencyallowed!) If a game is cancelled, there will be a voice mail message on the Village Hall answering machine by 3:30 p.m. Please call 847-526-4851 to verify cancellations. When a game is cancelled due to weather orheat, it will be made up on Mondays starting July 9th. Thanks in advance for your understanding!PARENTS: We need your help as coaches. This is very rewarding. You are able to help shape and moldchildren (including yours!) to become better ball players, develop physical skills and develop good character/attitude skills. For the 7-9 year olds, coaches will be pitching 3 balls to each batter, and then they willhit off the tee. We will be forming 12 teams for the 4-6, 6 teams of 7-9 years old so we need at least 18coaches. We would like consistency, so make sure you can be at most of the games. We will be having acoaches meeting on May 28th, from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Village Hall Gym. Rules, team assignments, and questions will be discussed during this time. Must register and pay in full by May 23rd,2014.. OPEN REGISTRATION.

SUMMER 2014

DANCE SCHEDULE

Our Instructors:

Stephanie Sargent (Locke)

Dance Coordinator/Instructor/Choreographer

Stephanie has been dancing for over 17 years. She started out right here at the Village of Island Lake! She then danced at other studios before coming back to her roots and coordinating/teaching. Stephanie has taught many styles of dance for 8 years. Stephanie graduated in May of 2013 with a degree in Elementary Education. She was previously known as Stephanie Locke; before getting married to Zack this past summer. This school year she is teaching at Matthew’s Middle School! Two of her favorite things about teaching dance are building relationships with her students and the recital. She loves seeing her students perform to the best of their abilities; showing off their hard work and dedication. In her free time, she enjoys: shopping, exercising, reading, and being with her family and friends.

Mallory Peters

Instructor/Choreographer

Mallory has been dancing since she was eight years old. Her favorite styles include, jazz, pointe, lyrical and tap. She has also worked in ballet, hip hop and tumbling styles. She graduated from Wauconda High School in May 2013 and is currently enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She is majoring in psychology with a minor in dance. Mallory has been a part of the dance team at Wauconda and is now in the UWW Dance Company. Mallory is very excited to be home over the summer to teach again since it is one thing she really enjoys!

Savannah Mitchell

Instructor/Choreographer

Savannah Mitchell has been dancing since she was five years old. She originally started dancing at the village hall and now she is a captain for the Wauconda High School's dance team. Savannah has been a captain for three years and she has choreographed multiple dance routines for her team. She strives to make dance something that her students will love; all while building the students foundations of dance.

Sydney Zeller

Instructor/Choreographer

Meet Sydney Zeller, our newest instructor with a bubbly and exuberant personality! She has been dancing for the past 7 years. She has professional training behind her, as well as, being on the WHS dance team. As an instructor she believes dancers should always be supported in and out of class. As a teacher, it is her goal to make any dancer I teach feel positive with themselves and their dancing. After she graduates high school she plans on becoming a vet or zoologist. Other than dancing, in her free time, she loves to write or take pictures. Being with animals is one of her favorite things as well. Due to my love of animals, I also love being with children or toddlers!

RECREATION DEPARTMENT OF ISLAND LAKE and ISLAND LAKE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PRESENTS:

BATTLE OF THE BANDS – JULY 19TH, 2014 AT CONVERSE PARK ISLAND LAKE

RULES

Age: High school and up -non-professional musicians may apply.

At least five bands must enter in order to host this event. In the event that an excessive number of bands enter, the director may elect to host a pre-selection process to be determined and set-up by the staff. This process would involve the bands submitting a CD recording of one song (in any file format) to be judged by a prior selection committee based entirely on a musicianship score.

Bands must be from, or based out of, the region where they compete. A band must consist of at least two performing musicians to be considered eligible.

Each band must not perform more than 2 songs, not to exceed ten minutes. Rock ‘n roll music is encouraged. Original compositions are also appropriate for the competition. A band will be disqualified for performing music considered lude, violent, sexist, racist or that contains inappropriate language.

Each band must submit a non-refundable $20 entry fee (no more, no less) in order to compete.

The four judging areas are as follows, and will be applied to each individual song a band performs:

Creativity12345

Is the song interesting and fun to listen to?

Cohesiveness12345

Does the band play well together as a group?

Stage Presence12345

Does the band appear comfortable in front of an audience?

Musicianship12345

Are they technically successfully with their instruments/voice?

The scores are then tallied for each song. Those category scores are then added together for a final numeric score. The band with the highest numeric score wins the competition. In the event of a tie, the auditor’s sheet will be reviewed and the band with the higher score in Musicianship will win the tie-breaker.

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN JUNE 20TH, 2014
