Founded in 1966, the not-for-profit Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE) is a dynamic global community of educational leaders and learning. Its membership includes international schools from around the world as well as universities, organizations, and individuals who support AAIE’s mission and vision.

Designed to meet the diverse needs of its membership, AAIE endeavors through its many services to connect people, ideas, and resources worldwide. It does this by providing opportunities for professional development, personal growth, and networking, all with an emphasis on international school leadership.

Due to the upcoming retirement of the Executive Director, Elsa Lamb, who has served the Association with distinction since 2008, the opportunity now exists for an innovative and energetic leader to shape the future direction of AAIE as it considers the next phase of its long and strong history.

AAIE provides opportunities and services for its members including:

·  A range of professional development events including an Annual Conference and other workshops for international school practitioners

·  Access to a network of educational professionals

·  Collaboration with other national and global educational organizations whose mission and philosophy complement those of the Association

THE POSITION

The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Council, directly responsible to the ten-member Board of Trustees. The Executive Director will have responsibility, directly or by delegation, of all AAIE operations. Serving AAIE is also a 23-member Advisory Council.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The AAIE Executive Directorshall be able to lead the successful implementation ofthe Board-approved AAIE Strategic Plan, which includes:

·  Developing innovative approaches to conferences, workshops and Institutes that are relevant and appeal to educational leaders

·  Developing and monitor an annual budget for operations and meeting/conference expenses

·  Actively supervising AAIE office staff including annual performance reviews

·  Actively supporting and interfacing with the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and implement directives and initiatives

·  Collaborating with other organizations and professional bodies where there is a clear alignment with AAIE Mission

·  Developing and implement ideas to increase membership, meet member needs and promote AAIE on a global basis

·  Developing Board and Committee agendas for all scheduled meetings

·  High-level written and oral communications skills. AAIE seeks a clear and consistent communicator who can analyze data, solve problems creatively and communicate to stakeholders

·  Ability to effectively present information to AAIE members and potential AAIE members through a variety of mediums

·  Ability to write reports and business correspondence

·  Ability to manage outside consultants and internal staff

·  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Board Members, stakeholders

·  Strong service orientation and networking skills; can demonstrate a high level of confidence and tolerate occasional stress

·  Ability to complete multiple tasks within set deadlines, budgets, accurately and on time

·  Ability to remain flexible and work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

·  Ability to assess and articulate ways to improve processes and programs

Conference/Meeting Planning:

·  Develop and implement AAIE activities

·  Establish timelines, manage content development process, coordinate the production of conference materials and marketing efforts, and gather, analyze, and summarize data obtained from course participants

·  Promote positive relationships with vendors who display at annual conferences.

·  Negotiate contracts with speakers, presenters and vendors

·  Travel to meetings to manage onsite registration, educational activities, support staff and board/ committee meetings

Key challenges for the successful candidate:

·  Increase AAIE Membership in numbers and diversity

·  Form strong partnerships with other international educational associations, accreditation bodies and other organizations that provide information, services and materials to international schools

·  Understand the professional development needs of international schools in a competitive PD environment and position AAIE to meet those needs

·  Develop AAIE Seminars and increase both their visibility and enrollment

·  Prepare for 50th anniversary (2016)

Minimum Qualifications:

·  BA/BS degree

·  Three to five years of leadership experience working in an Association environment or other similar executive position, such as a Head of School

·  Extensive successful event management experience

·  Experience with implementation and coordination of technology and social media

·  Ability to work in an office environment and supervise a small team of employees

·  Ability to multi-task

·  Ability and willingness to travel

·  Ability to develop innovations and translate these into concrete outcomes

Note: Since the AAIE office is located in the United States, the ability for non-American applicants to legally live and work in the US is a requirement. Currently the AAIE office is located at Nova Southeast University in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida but can be relocated elsewhere in the US depending on the desire of the successful candidate and with agreement of the Board of Directors.

Terms:

An initial two-year contract will be offered. The salary and benefits will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

Start Date:

To be discussed with the successful candidate, but to start no later than July 15, 2015.
